    Can’t wait even though I’m utterly useless. After reading literally every chapter @Mark Arbour has published on the site at least twice, I didn’t guess he wrote the story about a cruise ship, even though we know he loves going on cruises. Arghhhh But it is so much fun to guess. hope life is treating you well. Xxx

    The bat is the symbol of Valencia, football club included. They live in the orange groves and we used to see them every dusk surrounding the street lights opposite, feasting on mosquitoes.. for years I was never bitten but market gardeners have been cutting down their orange trees to plant other more profitable crops. Fewer bats around = more mosquito bites for Gary.

    Yes, 6 Jan is the feast of the Epiphany, known here as Los Reyes, the three kings. Legend gave them the names. In Many countries presents were given then and not at Christmas. V southern Mediterranean. There are still parades of the kings throwing sweets to kids. They also have ‘pages’ who can deliver the presents to yr door, if you pay enough!

    This used to be used by grammar teachers as the perfect example of a ‘split infinitive’. However, it was probably the main influence on modern English usage abandoning arcane rules. How do these ‘correct’ versions sound? To go boldly or boldly to go. about such things we debated in my grammar school after being glued to the latest episode of the original series. Happy memories.

    Many thanks, Mark, for this treat. As one of the dinosaurs on the site, I can remember the two hundredth anniversary being planned by ‘Tricky Dicky’ as he was exploring to see if a third term would be approved…. Then some idiot mentioned tape recordings…. Finally, of course, it was Ford who presided over the celebrations. Anyway, Happy Birthday, to the citizens of a great nation. 🎂

    Thank you. Sadly, knowledge of those years of dictatorship fades away. Those who grew up in the dying years of Franco are now 65+ like my partner, and the ‘prosperous, modern Spain’ just brushes its history under the carpet.

    I had tried to doze but it was impossible; until I heard from Gerardo, sleep seemed to be an impossible idea.     Hi, Interesting statistics. I should have been clearer, I was referring to the character giving the young innocent drugs, not taking an overall stance about references to referring to drugs in a story. Ismael is a well-drawn character, as usual with you! but he gives me the creeps. awaiting the next installment with anticipation high!

    Suggest for Special Awards: 1 Author who tells the most lies in the chat Not sure of a suitable prize. Perhaps copying “I shall not tell lies” 100 times without copy and paste or AI. 2 The reader who gets the lowest number correct. I’m in with a chance as I only got one right last year. Prize Read all stories by every author in the competition. Cant wait to start reading with my detective skills newly sharpened.
