It would be the norm for middle of the road Anglicans (Episcopalians, as well in US?) but obviously not for the Evangelical/ hard line Protestant wing. Having lived in an Anglican vicarage in my last year in university, I think Robert’s portraits are spot on.. ( no surprise, of course with him!) I am thoroughly enjoying catching up with this story. A great weekend read.

I feel like an addict, glowing with the pleasure of the latest “fix” but fearful about possible delays in my supply line! many thanks, Mark. Good luck with the grading. I have a couple of hundred writings to deal with… 😱

I can remember being interrogated by my sister on behalf of my mother….. 😱in the middle of a lunch party for 14 and I had dropped a huge dish of mashed potatoes on the floor and screamed for my sister to help. As we secretly scooped up what could be saved, she began the questioning…. 🤨 -

He is a master at this. It comes across in all of @Robert Hugill’s stories. That and the so-British art of self-deprecation which he does so, so well. It makes me feel as if I’m back home in uk.

Hi, can someone explain the significance of 4/20, please. another, slightly emotionally hyper chp. There is so much going on right now. BTW the Brad cameos are priceless, like a British actress Dame coming on the screen for a few minutes and stealing the Oscar (eg Dame Judi Dench). a great Sunday morning treat here in Europe (09.00 CET). THANK YOU MARK. BTW. I got a civil partnership registered yesterday. I’m a married man! 👨

Totally agree with your interpretation of the story. The fact that there are pages of debate building up after each chp is a credit to @Arch Hunter who is pulling out a great story, with really good pacing and that captures the awful adolescent gay paranoia which I can still remember with horror many years later! This is a v enjoyable tale. Thank you AH.
