Nice background material. I like the reflection period before leaving the solar system. It's hard to read such long paragraphs though, so please break up huge text blocks more.

Robbie the robot was a great addition to the story. There was a saturday morning kids show from the 70s called Ark II. It featured a post-apocalyptic RV theme with a very young and very attractive cast. There was a handsome couple about 20, a cute little kid and a chimp. The show was awful, so this story will definitely be better.

cant wait for the next chapter

You are off to a strong start! This is an interesting concept and it is well written. The whole thing was intriguing. I was wondering how homosexual couples would factor in given the need for high reproduction at the new planet, but you came up with a solution for that. The primary couple seemed cool and I like that they had children - it seemed convincing. You are doing well with writing dialogue too. There were a couple items that I thought wouldn't really fly, however: - Unknown destination. The range of the ship is about 400 light years at most. It is almost certain that the habitable planets will be detected and mapped out in the next 300 years, and one is likely to be detected within our lifetimes. It was announced, today, that Webb telescope detected water vapor clouds on planets outside our solar system. It is highly likely that the ship will have a known destination at launch. - Ion drives have LESS acceleration as they get faster, not more. A big colony ship like this might go some small % of light speed at best unless you can make something up that is more impressive. This is a function of relativity and obscene energy requirements. - If these guys have terraforming technology to change a whole planet, then the impetus of the Earth having a climate problem is not very convincing. It's a way overdone trope. This is not intended as a negative criticism of your story - I think you are off to a brilliant start and I look forward to reading more.

1.5 million is a very small population for all these worlds. Seems like the Empire does not want to share.

The solar system is very rich environment for a fascinating story. Where is this surface of Jupiter located and how does it work?

Chapter 2 - Match and Matched
GanymedeRex commented on WritersBlock404's story chapter in Chapter 2 - Match and Matched
What an enjoyable story so far. Really looking forward to see how it unfolds. I cannot believe that I'm distressed about the cheese! -
DeathRace 2000 stands out as such a classic! What would I have given to have seen that film in the drive inn + Mechagodzilla in one night. Awesome!

Bravo! Nice conclusion. I enjoyed the story though it was hard keeping track of so many boy characters.

Wow! What a great, and long delayed, continuation of a gripping tale. Looking forward to the conclusion. Thanks!- 6 comments

This story has really changed tracks and gotten so interesting! I'm not sure about the protecting boys thing when it comes to the drugs though.

I was wondering why Phillip was an emancipated minor. It did not make sense, until now. Also: PRINCIPLE - a belief or point of moral foundation. PRINCIPAL - leader of a school or other organization.

He was right about the Kurds. Good people.

1) Getting $2M in 1988 and only having $3M 30 years later is not an example of a good investor. He should have over $10M by now easily, but he wasn't too bad because he didn't blow it all like most people would have done. 2) Army CID can't investigate their way out of a paper bag. 3) I knew a sociopathic staff sergeant in the Army. I instructed that he should never be allowed around young people and his next assignment was with cadets at West Point. Go figure.

We sure got to know Phillip more deeply in this episode. Nice explanation and how it affects his psychology.

Marijuana is quite dangerous for children and teens in addition to the social effects of hanging out with druggies and drug dealers. One third of teens develop a dependency disorder and heavy usage by adolescents is associated with permanent IQ impairments.
-
James has some good points on the prevalence of drug use in teens. Personally, reading about it too much makes me uncomfortable, but I don't think @JamesSavikhas gone overboard. I prefer to see less of it and not have the use described in any detail.

My Lord. This teen did not come from a small band of seal hunters living on an ice floe his entire life- he came from Denmark - 1940 Denmark was a nice country where people went to church, knew how to read and engaged in a rich folk culture. Families typically read a newspaper at least weekly and they knew about European affairs. They also knew what chess was. Also, serving to fight in WWII in England would not be viewed as a duty to avoid or be lucky to be out of. The prevailing attitude among the youth was a desire to serve and a fear that they would look like cowards if they didn't. Someone left behind was suffered shame, not something to be appreciated. I really like the slow burn and gradual exposure of the characters. I also like the mixture of Danish and English and the language barrier part of the story. The problems I'm noticing seem to stem from the same source: The characters are viewed through a 2022 cultural prism with lack of knowledge of the cultures involved - especially during this time period. I'm signing off for those reasons but do think this author has a lot to offer as her continues to mature in his writing. Good luck!

Not buying this. I doubt there was more than a few illiterate families in Denmark at the time. Every farm family was an integral part of the nearest village and the nearest church. Community is part of their culture. The country was highly literate in the 20th century and he would have been well versed in the Bible.
-
The family situation with George is a mystery and it is very nicely introduced! I'm pretty sure there aren't any male university students left in UK by 1940, because the country fully mobilized for the war. Every young man was fighting, unless there was a really good reason to be ineligible for it.

Enjoying this Chapter - you've been doing well.

This is a great story premise. I'm concerned that 17 is a bit old. In WWII, a 17 year old would be viewed as pretty close to an adult, not a minor who needs protection and care. He would have to be 13-15 to get this kind of treatment. At 17, he could enlist in the armed forces and many his age (including foreigners) did so. Roald Dahl, a famous norwegian author, was an RAF pilot during the early part of the war.
-
I really enjoyed the Danish, since I know some Norwegian it is very similar and I can enjoy a tale in both languages. Nice progression.

Juvenile Care Lovers

I liked the style of language - eloquent. -
Good comments by @ColombusGuy there. I just reread Hammerhead and note that it wasn't finished, right near the climax. It might be better use of time to complete the prime story for the author's universe.
