Oh, I was not giving her a pardon, by any means. As Mawgrim pointed out, she pulled some really shady acts when they got to Lessa’s time. I did mean that she used it to keep control. R’mart wasn’t strong enough to take control, or at least establish himself as an equal. The leadership failed in many ways. As stated, it takes an outsider to truly figure out what is going on. Unfortunately, the Weyrleaders are so hidebound into the autonomy idea, no one will call Bedella to account.

Now that Lycans have been attacked, they might actually start taking the situation seriously. After this is all done, that Beta, his co-horts, and the entire Council need to be taken to task for their disregard of the werebears and their issues. How many others are ignored as not being worth their attention? Disgusting. They have enough to deal with hiding from humans, but to ignore the needs of the majority of shapeshifters is insanity. The Lycan Council needs to open seats to other representatives.

Adam will probably find out about this and make sure they have the proper training. Our faith is in Prince Adam!

I think if Adam has Hans start digging, things will startcoming out, whether incompetence or something else. I have no doubt Adam can figure it out.

I love reading about all the locations you talk about in Door County and it’s environs. I am from the Milwaukee area and I feel like I am going home whenever an author does a story in my neck of the woods, which is somewhat rare. I’m just sad that there has to be those evil elements there. It really is such a beautiful area.

Talk about being hidebound. Bedella is obviously still mourning the loss of the previous Weyrleader and cannot abide changing anything he did, even if it proves harmful to the Weyr and it’s surrounding area of responsibility. R’mart wants to be much more reasonable, I think, but is walking a fine line with her. After all, she holds the real power in the Weyr. The Weyrleader can change the next time her dragon rises, but she remains Senior Queen until death. Maybe this can be a way to break the old ways. The weyrfolk will see how the seconded riders are faring better with the restrictions lifted and will start demanding the same for themselves.

I knew it was a setup as soon as I read that Mathers was taken in separately. They have to keep up with the secrets, after all. Too bad he’s a braggart. I also knew Ethan’s parents would rally for both of the boys immediately. Now they need to come up with some proof. Wonder if Jimmy would testify, but I doubt it. They should also bring Wayne’s grandparents in on this, no matter what he says.

You know, I was awake and thinking about this story (hubby woke me getting up for a late-night run). This witch was really very stupid. Here she is trying to poison Adam with the fake ring. She is handling a deadly poison. She should have had an antidote with her in case she accidentally dosed herself. Since she didn’t, she really sealed her own fate through her own greed, short-sightedness and stupidity.

What do you do? Sit and wait for comments to appear? Please tell me you know the song from The Wizard of Oz!

I’m sure. Since he is so high-ranking, there is no possible way he would be denied, because no one wants to make an enemy of the powerful. However (and this would be in real time, not necessarily in a story), since he is so high-ranking, he absolutely would ask permission. Like I said, it’s a matter of manners—dotting your ‘i’s’ and crossing your ‘t’s’ or minding your ‘p’s’ and ‘q’s’ as the sayings go. I don’t mean to sound picky. I know sometimes my comments come across that way. I apologize, if so.

Just as a point of etiquette, I believe that if a priest is asked by a family to officiate at a ceremony in a parish to which they are visiting or, at least not assigned, it is a matter of proper manners to ask permission of the local bishop or priest or someone with authority. After all, they are coming in and kind of stepping on someone’s toes. I highly doubt it is ever refused, but manners are manners. You don’t want to ruffle feathers, especially for the people who have to live with the consequences.

If they were attacked first, yes, they can. The problem is that the boys haven’t laid a paper trail in order to prove harassment.

After the Best Man (my husband’s nephew) and my Maid and Matron of Honor (my best friend locally and my college roommate), we had all children. My husband was attended by his cousins/nephews (they call us Uncle and Auntie), ages 15 and 13, and my 11 yo niece was the Junior Bridesmaid. Then the groomsmens’ sisters were the Ring Bearer, age 7, and Senior Flower Girl, age 6. My 4yo twin nieces were Junior Flower Girls. They were all wonderful! Even the twins (and so many people thought I was crazy to have them at that age)!

And people love to eat snails, thereby easily infecting the diner. They really need to contact his family and tell them to seek medical treatment.
