  1. Well, since the dry ice was mentioned by another reader, I'll expand on my guess. I think the bucket did contain dry ice and the heater was brought in to make it evaporate faster. That is why the carbon dioxide levels were so high in the bathroom. The heater was never Jake's. Since the assumption was a carbon monoxide accident, I doubt that any fingerprints were taken. If they were, you wouldn't have found Jake's on it! Nats lied about turning the heater off. First she said "I turned it off, that's it". Now, according to the fireman, she tried to turn it off and couldn't, it ran out of gas.
  2. It appears that Rush will be jumping sides and work for Twyla! I'm still pretty sure about the method of Jake's murder, which is not what is currently assumed by most commenters and characters, but I still don't know the why or who. I'm feeling fortunate that I have happened upon this story on my days off!
  3. So Steve's body was dumped. I assumed from the blog that he was gay, and that whatever happened between Jake, Eddie, and Steve was sexual. But now I think that Steve was straight. All the evidence he was gay and into the leather scene could be staged by the killer. Clothing, hanky, sex toys. Did the anonymous tip to the reporter come from Nats? Was she the latest conquest turned killer?

    Discovery 10

That last part made me tear up a little. Teenagers just suck! I still suspect Nats the most.
  5. I forgot to mention the increase in views of the blog towards the end. Eleven is not a big number, but it's more than 5 or 6. Did Jake write something that someone didn't want others to read?
  6. I reread the blog portion of the story. I suspect Steve from the blog is the young man shot under the bridge. I have no clue what the connection is. To answer your question, I do not trust either Nats or Eddie. I think I know the actual cause of death and the purpose of the heater. It has everything to do with the fire man's report about the carbon dioxide levels and the bucket. Jake had asthma, which was not a secret. Who is "the other man"? In his blog, Jake mentioned an ex who was a construction worker. Eddie worked at a hospital, with cancer fighters. Did I mention I don't trust Nats?
  7. I think the out of place objects must be related to the manipulation of the heater. The plastic splinter and wire spring especially. I'm perplexed by the retainer container. But no retainer? And I have to reiterate other comments, what other guy?!

    Chapter 30

Progress, indeed! I think Bryan could be more helpful to Gray's dad than anyone else, if he would just let go some of the pain and talk.
  9. We have turned a corner, we have moved from an accidental death investigation to a murder investigation. I keep wondering at the motive. I can't figure out what anyone has to gain from killing Jake. This was premeditated, not a crime of passion.
  10. I would imagine that Rush feels kind of like your readers, he knows something is off but can't quite figure out exactly what it is. Sort of like when you wake up after a dream and have hints of memories but can't actually remember any details. It's there, so close, but unobtainable.
  11. I remembered the initial account, as well, with Nats using a hidden key. At the time I wondered who all knew about the key. If she wasn't involved, why did she lie? Also, Jake never mentioned having a heater in his blog. Not that someone would think to mention such an item, but I don't think he had this heater. And then there is still the bucket. And his friends' unusually erratic reactions to him just prior to his murder.
  12. I'm reading this many years later and just had to comment on how well you write different POVs. It's obviously not easy, demonstrated by how little difference there is in the "voices" of various characters by most authors. I could feel the benign contempt of Laura for a client that didn't look up to courtroom standards, the overwhelmed confusion of Twyla, the frustrated but well-meaning Ben, and the damaged but trying hard Clay. Really good writing. Also, the bucket has intrigued me from it's first mention.
  13. Great ending, Ludo was truly letting go in style!
  14. They survived their first family vacation! I have fond memories of summer vacations with my family, always driving. I didn't fly until I was an adult. It seems to me that vacations were easier and comparatively less expensive in the 70's and 80's. There is so much more emphasis now on paying to go to places where you have to wait in line with thousands of others and purchase over priced food, just so you can post some photos. I experienced vacations much more like this, lots of camping and tromping around in the woods, playing in a lake.
  15. I like the start, Gray seems to be a complex character, I hope he develops at least a friendship with Matt. He seems to need a friend. I look forward to meeting his brother.

    Chapter 18

I have hope that they will end up together, but I fear that whomever has been meddling to keep them apart is not done yet.
  17. Can’t wait! And just give in to your western muse!
  18. This is an intriguing start, I love mysteries.

    Napoleon

George was truly impressive with Napoleon. His playful banter with Winkler and Jacobs was just as indicative of his true nature. Great chapter!
  20. Same! Amazing Race is the only reality show I watch, I would have loved to go it when I was younger.

    Chapter 7

The big mystery is solved, I expected a drowning while surfing, not a shark attack. The sudden and violent nature of his boyfriend's death was then compounded by the cold and angry response from Josh's parents. I understand the knee-jerk reaction, but I doubt they have improved their disposition since Josh was going to kill himself. I was impressed by Cameron's response to Jordan's story.
  22. This has been a fun, but challenging journey to personal freedom by Ralph. I think he and Nolan have built a solid base for their life together. I will miss peeking into their day to day lives.
  23. Max and Roman's story is incendiary! Both their club dance and their bedroom dance were hot and completely out of the ordinary, especially for Roman. Because we have their book to look forward to, I don't hate the note. It just means more drama we will get to read! But, realistically, Roman is not ready for mushy goodbyes, and neither is Max. Maybe being left in the middle of the night (like Max has undoubtedly done many times), will be the wake-up call Max needs to re-prioritize his life.
  24. I loved this peek into Roman, I look forward to more. I don't have a lot of respect for his mother. Anyone who would write off her child forever for a mistake made as a teenager is not capable of the kind of selfless love millions of mothers naturally possess. For the record, I think you do a great job speaking "in character", better than most writers I have read.

    Hook Ups

Thanks for this joyful chapter, which in George's world means lots of sex with good looking men. Was there any doubt that George is a better lay than Caroline? Practice makes perfect.
