  1. A wapenshaw jacket: Also described as a motorcycle jacket.
  2. From Old English, in particular Scottish, meaning 'weapon show'. Was originally a gathering of troops in every district in Scotland to satisfy military chiefs that men were well trained and their weapons were in good shape. Word was adapted from Old Norse. Wapenshaw is short for the Scottish term 'wapenshawing'.

Yes, and not the Ben from my story.

    Childhood Prompts

@Valkyrie As far as your comment about your Grandmother insisted on being 20 minutes early, I grew up always hearing the phrase, 'If you're not early, you're late." So, to make sure you were early, you allowed plenty of leeway time, in case of unforeseen problems. As far as prompt #238, those quirks could range from juvenile, out of fear, due to past experiences, or just plain kinky. I can't wait to read some of those prompts. lol

    Chapter 25 S2

Yes, I'm sure Ben is curious and gentle, just not a bear (extremely hairy).
  6. I see that everyone has given various meanings for the surname Wassermann, but you've missed the obvious. It came about because it was the term used to describe a water carrier. Sounds like a fun job, or should I say boring. It's similar to the surname Zimmerman, which came about because it referred to a carpenter in German.
  7. Is it bad luck or a problems at the top?

    Last Call!

For a second you had my confused. Hearing the words 'Last Call', in my head had me thinking that I was back in college and out having a good time with my friends. Thanks for the memories.
  9. In Scottish English wanchancy can also mean ill-fated or mischievous.
  10. This word comes from Middle English, circa 1510s. Wan (deficient) + chance + y. In other words, deficient chance or unlucky. This word is used in Scottish English.
  11. The tachistoscope is credited to the German physiologist A. W. Volkmann in 1859. During World War II Samuel Renshaw used it to train fighter pilots to be able to help them identify silhouettes of aircraft as being either friend or foe.
  12. I believe it's because you have to have a true Libertarian mindset to do it effectively, so you and @Myr seem to possess that requirement.
  13. Yes, absolutely.

I agree with your evaluation, but you'll have to wait to see what goes down.

    Chapter 25 S2

Yes, Devin, and now Mac, seem to enjoy helping others when there's a problem. Ben is probably not shy do to the fact that he's an athlete. When you're a male athlete you're generally used to get undressed and dressed in the locker room with the rest of them team, as well as taking group showers, you tend to lose your shyness.
  16. @Myr sure seems to have a lot of stories in this deep dive.
  17. The OED says the earliest know use of the word was in 1681, in Heraclitus Ridens.

    Chapter 25 S2

Yes, chasing the thieve was an interesting event for them, and Devin didn't have to change much this time in order to catch the thieve. As far as Ben goes, it seems he's sending signals, but how are Devin and Mac going to react? You'll have to wait to find out.

    Chapter 25 S2

Yes, I think you've got that right, drs.

    Chapter 25 S2

Yes, Ben has been sending plenty of signals, but you'll have to wait to see what happens next. And Devin knows how to morph subtly, and I think we all hate those petty thieves that prey on others.

    Chapter 25 S2

Oh, I don't think you have a dirty mind and you might be on to something. Being a jock at his school, he probably doesn't feel he can experiment with other guys where he lives, so Mac and Devin might be a safe alternative. Who knows what or how much will go down. And I apologize for the late posting this morning. I got a little sidetracked.
  22. Chapter 25 – Off to the Races Shortly after our flight took off for Florida, my dad turned to Devin and me and spoke. “Since you two were so helpful while we were assisting your mother’s parents, I called my dad before we left and asked him to add another day to our visit to Disney World.” “That’s awesome. So, which park are we going to visit twice?” “That’s not exactly what we’re going to do. I asked your grandfather to get us tickets so we can spend a day at Blizzard
  23. An example of Bradytelic would be cockroaches, because they haven't changed very much since prehistoric times, so If you want to call them the Brady bunch, then that's up to you and I'll leave it to you to decide how to name the various cockroaches. .
  24. There are actually three words the go together to describe evolutionary rates of change: Bradytelic: (slow tempo) horotelic: (medium tempo) tachytelic: (rapid tempo)
  25. Ah, a trip back to the past with Cher. She likes when you do that, because it makes her younger again, but she suggests the next time you should go back 30 or 40 years.
