  1. After the term gadzooks fell from regular use, the term gadzookery was adopted (sometime around 1955) to refer to the deliberate use of old-fashioned language.
  2. The term gadzooks (where gad was used to refer to god) has a religious origin. It is a mild or indirect way of referring to the phrase "God's hooks", which is a reference to the nails used at the Crucifixion. The word was first used in the 1600s.
  3. The same rationale as above is used in the meaning of Lactiferous ducts the ducts that converge and form a branch system that connect the nipple to the lobules of the mammary gland. They are also referred to as milk ducts, mammary ducts, and galactophorous ducts.
  4. From the Greek, galakto (milk) + phor (from amphora meaning a container for transporting valuables) + ous (full of)
  5. Actually, that wouldn't be so bad, because girls have an easier time with a guy's name. Sam could be short for Samantha, I've met girls named Billie and then there's Ricki Lake. And on top of that, there's a lot of names th at are used by both sexes, like Shannon.
  6. I also know several females named Karen and one named Kaaren (pronounced (car-in), and she was definitely a Karen.
  7. Would that be because of its more common usage or because he'd been accused of moral turpitude? Don't worry, we still love you, Steve!
  8. Quote: "Thank gosh my parents didn't name me Karen , must be confusing." Yes, that would be confusing, and you'd probably end up going through life like Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue."
  9. When trying to do some research on this word, every time I typed "eagre" into the search engine, the results always came up with either eager or eagle. It would give me the definition of eagre, but when I looked for any other facts about the word, I always ended up looking at results for eager or eagle.
  10. The ebullioscope can also be used to determine the molecular weights of substances by measuring the extent to which they change the boiling point of a solvent.
  11. From the Latin ebullire (to boil).
  12. Ah, an Oliver Twist lead in.
  13. Examples of moral turpitude that could get a female teacher fired, and she had to be single. Reasons for dismissal on groups of moral turpitude include: 1) revealing ankles, wrists, or neck in public, 2) being seen on the street after 6:00 p.m., except when going to church, 3) being seen alone with a gentleman, 4) must resign if she becomes engaged (and of course if she became pregnant).
  14. A synonym for turpitude would be depravity.

    Spiders

The guy better shut his mouth or the spider might go there next.
  16. Games such as Dungeons and Dragons and Daggerfall often utilize thaumaturgy.
  17. Miracles worked by Roman Catholic Saints and Pentecostal pastors can fall under the heading of thaumaturgy as well.
  18. The word tergiversator is defined as a respondent who avoids giving a clear direct answer.
  19. Tergiversate originates from two Latin words: tergum (back) and vertere (to turn). That turned into the Latin word tergiversat (with one's back turned). That came to Middle-English as tergiversate in the mid-17th century.

    Chapter 21 S2

Yes, grilling meats and vegetables outdoors always seems to taste great, but with as hot as it's been it makes people to think twice before standing over a hot grill. Are the squirrels worried about burning their paws on the grill?

    Chapter 21 S2

Danilo, you're going to find out that as you get older your tastes will change. Things you used to like become just okay, and things you thought you'd never eat become one of your favorites. At least that's what happened to me.
