    Chapter 20 S2

I was thinking you might be on holiday, but no worries. I'm glad you got to this chapter. Yes, Dev and Mac don't seem to let the presence of their parents stop them from helping youngsters in need.
  2. This word sounds like a species of animal.
  3. You may need a lasso to pull it in, so good luck.

    Chapter 20 S2

No, you're not completely off the mark, because I'm always trying to flesh out the various characters. I'm just glad you're finding it interesting and looking forward to what's coming next.
  5. Does this mean to travel around like a peregrine falcon? I think you have to be high, I mean up in the air, to do that.

    Chapter 20 S2

Thanks, drs, and there are groups within the gene pool that we hope don't reproduce. They would probably be the winners of the Darwin Award as well. Yes, there is still quite a bit of the summer left, as they spend more time with both families, and then on to their third year (junior year) of college.

    Chapter 20 S2

I guess that would be on when you die. People who die young, because of bad deeds, accidents, or illness are tragic, and I'm sure they would feel weren't a good thing. However, when someone is old and has lived a full existence, it's just part of the circle of life and most of those people don't are ready for death. There is a difference. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and on to the next - in another week.

Yes, bullies don't usually have an abundance of empathy.
  10. I prefer the Australian term instead: a walkabout
  11. Obambulate comes from Latin: ob (to) ambulare (walk)

    Chapter 20 S2

Yes, if the bully doesn't have a group to back him up, he will have some type of weapon to give him an advantage. They just can't deal with a fair fight.

Yes, that true as well, so they usually have an entourage with them or they carry big guns.

    Chapter 20 S2

Aren't most bullies reckless and stupid after they've been getting away with things for a while. I agree that it would probably have bruised the bullies ego to be beaten by a smaller boy, but I think Devin just wanted to show the bully what it felt like being picked on, such as the bully was doing to others. Who knows, maybe Devin will run across the bully again.
  15. Chapter 20 – A Family Fourth of July Devin’s parents arrived just in time for supper on July 3rd, and after we’d all greeted them, my mom spoke again. “You’ll be staying in the same room as last time and we’ll give you a chance to take your things up to the room, get settled in, and freshen up a bit before you come down to eat.” “Thank you. We appreciate that,” Ma replied, and then she and Pa headed upstairs. As soon as they were ready, they came back down to join us and w
  16. For those of you into DND (Dungeons and Dragons), the fifth edition has an adventure titled "Orrery of the Wanderer". It's a marvelous artifact with multiple geared components and sweeping hands that is the "Timepiece of Travel".
  17. As strange as this word may sound, the word was named after the Fourth Duke of Orrery, for whom one of these devices had been made. The plural form of the word is orreries.
  18. Origin is Greek, peri (around) and haptein (fasten) = periapton. To Middle French periapte. These items were crafted with a gem and usually hung from a silver chain.
  19. Having been a waiter during college at a high end restaurant, I know how important the tips are, since those types of places have such a low minimum wage they can pay the help. Not only that, but we also gave a percentage of our tips to the cocktail waitress, the cooks, and the busboys, so small tips don't go very far. I always tip 20% unless the service was terrible.
  20. If this was the case, then there would be a lot more guys trying to get picked up for drunk driving and even more trying to enroll in "Girls' schools".

    Spiders

Yikes. It's making me wonder if these species merely made it here under their own power or if some enterprising individuals brought them here hoping to make a small fortune selling them, without knowing what they were actually capable of. I hope that's not the case - a disaster of our own making.
  22. Nacarat Bar, Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
  23. From Middle French nacarade, from Old Spanish or Portuguese nacarado, from Arabic naqqarah (small drum) and naqara (to hollow out). Related to nacar, nacre.
  24. Kilderkin appeared in the late Middle English from Middle Dutch kinderkin, a variant of kinerkijn.
  25. Does this bring Narcissus to mind for anyone else? For him, it was the study of his own beauty.
