I get it. Altimexis makes a decent point however, as you said, it’s been 5 years. Nick seemingly has adjusted to his father passing at this point. He’s gotten older, more mature-ish anyway. There doesn’t seem to be the dwelling on his loss as much now and the grieving is beyond the acceptance stage. He’s moved on mostly. I say mostly bc sure he misses him. But it’s a healthy missing of him. The void of guidance he has from his father ..there haven’t been thoughts of “I wonder what dad would tell me” etc. Nick is mature enough now, and knew his dad well enough, to know mostly what is dad would tell him. If he could get his mother to not work every time he comes home and actually had meaningful conversations with her, undoubtedly she’d likely say something that remind Nick of what his father would say. But, at this point, Nick is just being deliberately ignorant of the spark he and Jack have. Jack keeps trying to keep his feelings out there. Nick basically ignores it.
