  1. Happy birthday Duncan!
  2. Happy Birthday, Tim!
  3. Only December?!! But yeah, good to have a time limit, actually... and as long as you keep pushing me I hope it'll be all right. And you keep yours coming, too, I can't wait to see it finished.
  4. Well done!! 28,000+ to go, in one week... ahaha. -___- That's 4,000 a day. Meh.
  5. Wasn't one of them The Ring? I think it was. And gosh, I don't think I'd seen any of the films I got... except Psycho, and Rear Window which I didn't get. Oh, and Alien which I didn't get either... hmm. Weird.
  6. Quote: "Bush got his undergraduate degree at Yale, his law degree at UT and his MBA at Harvard. He is no idiot. Over and over his political rivals have failed to take him seriously and he defeated a string of democratic notables- Ann Richards, Al Gore and John Kerry." Erm, that was completely and solely his father's doing, and his father's friends'. Sorry... But he is an idiot.
  7. Geography was, like, child's play, harhar... but English vocab was pretty disheartening. German would have been cheating, so I didn't do that. Overall it was fun, though.
  8. Yeah, it's a cool picture -- I wasted 11 minutes of precious NaNoWriMo time on it and got 13 titles right -- but I somehow managed to miss Alien and Rear Window even though I already knew those (from here)!! Unbelievable. No wonder writing is slow. I blame my horrible toothache, though.
  9. I read some Severitus fan fiction stories and had an idea for one myself, and thought others might enjoy reading it too -- so I wrote it and posted it purely for people's entertainment -- mine and others'. It was great fun. And then it went on from there -- it's a balance between wanting to write something and hoping (and thinking) that people will enjoy reading it. Sometimes I stray into the minefield of writing something Good, and that's hardly ever a good thing, it messes with the enjoyability. And if a story can't be enjoyed, it's usually not a Good story, either, though there are exceptions.
  10. Meh, why didn't OED add it first.
  11. OMG!! You didn't tell me it's 2,000 words a day! *cough* Okay I can do my own math, but... I didn't. Lalala. Anyway, that's okay though, I'll just have to make my maid work harder. Hmm I think I'll polish my whip now...
  12. I'm very sad to hear that. He was a very good writer, it's so sad that he didn't live to develop that skill, and that he didn't get to do all the other things he wanted to do. My condolences to those of you who were close to him.

    Boyfriend to Rehome

Wow, a blog entry *by* DomLuka! I'd given up on that ever happening. Great that you're back! I've been enjoying your stories so much, now there's even a chance that there'll be more of them...
  14. Imagine the disappointment when it turns out to be smaller than it looks.
  15. It's begun, somewhere over there on the other side of the globe. I wonder what I was doing on that day -- I probably had an organic chemistry lab, or a lecture, or both. That would explain a few things. Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day today.
  16. Happy birthday, and thanks so much for your great stories!
  17. You're one of the few who actually did write a story in 6 words -- and it's the best by far, it had me laughing out loud for... well, it felt like ages. Haha. Most of the other attempts are general statements rather than stories, and one of them was the end of a story but there's nothing about what preceded that event. This is funny and also has some sort of plot. Too bad that it's too long. Romeo and Juliet seems to be easy to shorten down, thank goodness Shakespeare didn't know... Well done. I have to say that Anna's version wins, though, thanks to the hilariousness of it.
  18. Happy Birthday!!
  19. Bob! Lol you're giving me ideas... and you made me think of this Blackadder episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG9HSqjGWKY
  20. This was great to hear. I've (still) been thinking that I need to choose something to be for 'the rest of my life', but maybe that's actually not the way to do it. Maybe I should just go on the way I have and switch occupations now and then to avoid stagnation. After all, there are so many interesting things to do. I studied science to begin with (chemistry, microbiology) and had a part-time job at the museum of national history, which was really cool. The museum was an amazing place when you had access to places the visitors couldn't go to, such as the attic. Then I switched to languages -- Irish of all 'stupid' things to learn. But I had a great time, got a B.A. in Ireland, and then decided to go back to Sweden. With languages there's only two things you can do, really, so I began with teaching, which was horrible in some ways but very rewarding in others. Well, I see that now that I've given it up. But I definitely learned a lot while doing that and I don't regret having done it. Now I'm doing the other thing you can do with languages -- I translate. But it's more interesting than one might think since I'm at the national police and get to see things I used to know nothing about, mainly in my translations but also 'for real' sometimes. I kind of want to go back to doing science now, and did a summer project at the university here, which was great -- but I don't know what I'll end up doing. Hopefully I'll be doing a lot of interesting things... soon... They fade eventually, that's the good thing about getting older. But if you want to and can change your situation, do! It's never too late.
  21. Teaching is rather a lot like acting actually. You're on stage all day and people scrutinise you and notice every single mistake you make, and if you're not convincing in the role you're playing you'll get slaughtered by the critics (read: students). I used to be a teacher so I know. But don't let me discourage you, it can be a rewarding job too.
  22. I think it's a question of definition, too. To me, as soon as flirting becomes annoying, or even when it isn't mutual anymore, it is no longer flirting but something else. In that respect it's like love, it's a two-way thing, if one person isn't in on it it becomes something else -- in some cases, sexual harassment (which is =/= flirting, the two cannot occur at the same time between the same two people).
  23. That's what I wanted to be too. So if you find a million, tell me, I want to come too...
  24. You choose to focus on the word 'sexual' when you define flirting (n.b. this word isn't actually in definition 2 above), and you choose to interpret 'sexual' as 'sexual harassment' or at least as sexual in a bad way. To me the word sexual has both bad and good connotations, and in this case I would say mainly good ones. True, that is my subjective interpretation, but yours is just as subjective and they therefore have the same validity. Definition number 2 above does not have the word 'sexual' in it. It has 'amorous', which to me has only positive connotations. In fact, I don't really see how this definition could be interpreted in a negative way. Neither did you. You didn't justify the assumptions you made in your other post (which I just cited). Instead you assumed that flirting entails groping people's buttocks and such -- what evidence do you have for that? It's never happened to me, and it doesn't fit the definitions you cited up there -- groping someone's buttocks isn't the same as 'to court triflingly or act amorously without serious intentions'. Instead, I'd say that fits the definition of sexual harassment (harass = trouble or annoy continually or repeatedly).
