  1. How many Chicago condos have there been? I was thinking the original was farther north than Boystown. Did that get replaced with one in Boystown? If Wade gets a master's from Chicago but not a PhD, it would more likely be an MBA than a master's in economics. And some of the classes can be taken in the evening program north of the Loop (same professors as on campus). The commute from Boystown to U of C in Hyde Park isn't that bad if you avoid rush hour, less than a half hour. And I think there would have been a law school professor named Obama there in 2002.
  2. Where did Noah work? I didn't go back to check, but was it a place that sold phones? Maybe Noah can provide things that Marie's parents are trying to take away.
  3. That's not just a funny old lady, that's Jamie Lee Curtis. And she's only 54.
  4. Just read that they found heroin and a little alcohol.
  5. . At least in the US, probably Canada also, it's now marketed as 'canola', which is from improved strains of rapeseed.
  6. My experience with the Cook County IL courts is that they expect jurors to be dressed in a way that shows respect-- nothing excessively shabby or casual. They don't expect suits and ties any more, but shorts might be deemed unacceptable.
  7. University of Chicago seems out of place in that list of schools for JJ. Are you sure that's what Daisy said? It's extremely intense academically, and I've never heard skating mentioned in connection with the place (and I know it very well).
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. That's exactly how I read it.
  10. I don't know Russian except to transliterate the characters, but that's exactly what it looks like--almost as if they took the words directly from English (or the same places English got them from).
  11. I've been reading Robin Hobb lately and like her Realm of the Elderlings trilogies a lot. The Tawny Man is the third trilogy. If you want want to start at the beginning with the characters, first read The Assassin's Apprentice from the Farseer trilogy.
  12. It would fit much better in downtown Chicago where I work. Buildings that size are typical here. I like it better than our latest tall building, Donald Trump's tower.
  13. Happy Birthday, Bob! I'm looking forward to reading the next installment of your memoir.
  14. Right now, it's "coronated" with the British festivities--just say "crowned".
  15. Prince Philip is 90, so Charles may have the genes to outlast his mother. But even if he does, it seems likely it would be only for a few years.
  16. Looks like you don't have 5 posts in the right place yet. They need to be in the forums (with exceptions, Games and Humor doesn't count).
  17. A figure-skating contemporary of JJ's made the wedding pages of the New York Times on Sunday. Benjamin Miller married Sean Reisman in a Staten Island civil ceremony. They'll have a religious ceremony in Minnesota March 31. Miller is now a coach, but he is also the chairman of the Athlete Development Committee of U.S. Figure Skating.
  18. If Wade went to Chicago and took constitutional law before 2004 he could have Obama. But just like Matt and Wade can likely get in at any schools they want, the success of their future careers probably doesn't depend much on where they go. So why not decide by picking schools where they'd most like to live.
  19. As far as getting into a good business school, under grad major would make little difference. They assume that they will teach you what you need to know. What's important is the total package you bring--why you want to go, what you plan to do, recommendations, grades, test scores, accomplishments.... As Mark said, given his connections, Matt would likely get in anywhere. His choIce of school would be influenced by where Wade is (unless Mark decides to separate them), whether the school is good in the area he wants to work in, and so on. So what do we know about Matt's interests? Does he want to work with Robbie? Or Brad? Or head off into some new direction of his own?
  20. . I think Stanford is one of the schools that doesn't offer undergraduate business degrees. And you don't have to go to a school in New York to work on Wall Street. Chicago Booth and Wharton (Penn) are both strong in finance. And Harvard, Yale, Tuck (Dartmouth) send plenty of grads there too.
  21. At the top private universities, business is usually graduate level only. UCLA must have decided to follow that model. Northwestern has compromised a little by offering undergrad certificates in financial economics and managerial analytics.
  22. Have a great birthday!
