Boy Toys: How Old Should They Be?
Tipdin replied to Mark Arbour's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Topics
I'm almost in the 65 or older group, and I think I might be a trophy husband. My partner is 21 years older than I. When we met, I was a 20 year old model and dancer so I was in pretty good physical condition. If two people like each other, go for it! Usually, people with a dramatic age difference don't have a lot in common, however, my partner and I have a great deal in common. Sex with each was never part of our relationship but we were good friends. My partner is young at heart and I tend to be an old soul. I had several friends in similar situations. Some of the situations (I think) were strictly an older man keeping a younger man - who was hoping to inherit his partner's money. My partner and I were on fairly equal financial terms, and I tend to be a tightwad with money so I'm usually the one complaining about spending money. We have an understanding that I will make sure he's comfortable at the end of his life, then our investments will be used to make sure that I can afford the care I will need to make sure my own last days are comfortable. Once I die, the sister and niece of my partner's ex will inherit my estate. The sister and niece have been like family to me, I'm happy to make them my beneficiaries. If an old fart and a young stud WANT to be together, why not? Chances are slim, USUALLY, but it does happen from time to time. I think what weirds people out is the pictures they have in their heads of sexual situations. You don't know for sure that sex is even a part of their situation - if it is though, to each his own! -
Only my Avatar name is made up, it's a character that I have been writing about for 30 plus years. The rest is real - for good or bad!

Gays gaining the right to marry means the end to many legal hassles. If gay people are afforded the same rights as straight people when they get married, it would mean that we can file joint taxes, inherit from one another, and a host of other legal issues are removed from the Worry List. It seems so simple. Give gay people the same rights that straight people get when marrying. We keep claiming that American treats its people equally under the law, however, every honest American knows that's not true. I shouldn't have to fight my partner's family for his half of the house we own. The money that we made and invested together should not AUTOMATICALLY go to his siblings - siblings that haven't had any relationship with us for decades. But in this state, even with a will, stipulations are not necessarily followed. My partner and I have gone through all sorts of red tape trying to insure and ensure that the surviving partner does not have to fight for what it rightfully theirs. For straight couples in this state, a surviving partner automatically inherits everything. No question. But investments that are in my partner's name do not automatically become mine, nor do investments that BOTH names are on. (In some situations it is possible to have right of survivorship, but not in all cases.) It's simple. Give me what my siblings got, what my cousins got, what my parent's got, what most of my friends got. Equality. I am not asking for anything extra or unusual.

I read the book - it was good. If the show is true to the book, you'll enjoy it.

Line forms to the left, thank you....

Well, I may show it off but it's not as pristine as it used to be! My home reflects my architectural background. I restored Victorians for decades and so I remodeled my 12 year old house to look more old-fashioned. It's furnished with crazy, wild stuff that you just wouldn't find in a 'normal' house: a throne in my living room, marble stepped-candle holders from an old church, a gothic framed mirror, hammered iron chandelier in the dining room, all that sort of stuff. Definitely not your average house. Most visitors laugh upon walking into my house. They say it looks exactly the way they would expect my house to look... Even dusty, I still love it!

I prefer my home to be clean - I used to clean it myself and kept it in 'show-off' condition. Now, however, I'm old and have a very bad back so the place isn't nearly as clean as I'd like it to be.

It's about time we did something the right way! -
They're back? Well, why not? With everything else that's going on, we might as well have them back. They'll fit right in with the rest of stupid crap that's going on!

Actually, there is VERY little that I will read online. I will download and print some Fantasy/magic type stories - IF - the story seems intriguing within the first page. Vampires, Sci-fi, and fanfic, all that sort of stuff, I don't even check it. Not interested at all.

Most of the time I listen to dance, trance, and rave music. I have a couple of Pandora stations where I listen to New Age, and another where its mostly pop. The vast majority of the music I listen to is not American though, whether it's just music or includes voice. I enjoy the sound of several languages that I can't speak. But every now and then I have to go back to my roots and listen to classical. (My mother was a pianist and sometimes I need a hit of that.)

Six hundred years ago when I was in junior high, showering was required after gym class. Our instructor was a big handsome beast that would stand and watch us shower - to make sure everyone got a shower presumably... However, it did eliminate the teasing; he didn't allow it. (Luckily I was one of the kids that hit puberty early so I arrogantly strutted around like a porn star...)

Now THIS is a subject one could examine. Is it really easier to hate than love? Why? I believe that to hate is to make yourself vulnerable. If it's true that hating is easier than loving and does not include vulnerability, then what sort of characters can writers create with this philosophy? You've opened an enormous gift of potentials here. Perhaps worthy of a thread unto itself?

Good question. I think I would educate myself ABOUT the dark arts but not to USE the dark arts. Knowledge is usually a good thing. the more you know, the more you can understand. If I knew a good bit about the dark arts, I would be more apt to understand when the dark arts were at work. I would recognize the telltale signs and whatnot. A good education might help me out because I might have learned how to counteract a dark spell. I would also pay VERY close attention in my Defense Against the Dark Arts classes!

I wish parents would teach their children that whatever their bodies look like, is ok. Variation is normal, and birthday suits should be worn with pride - even wrinkled ones! I don't understand the prudishness, and I chuckle at how easily boys and men are reduced to quivering cowards as soon as they get naked. Get over it! Penis envy and self-doubt is NOT inherent; it has to be taught. I'll show you mine even if you won't show me yours - oh, wait a minute, maybe that's a WHOLE different topic....

Oh gosh, I must have a hundred books or more on my bookcases right now that I have yet to slog through. Most of the time it seems that I just don't care about what's going on. The author has failed to capture my attention - which really isn't that hard to do. I have dozens of unfinished series to read as well. I enjoy the first few but then I start to see the pattern or recipe used in the subsequent books and the stories go flat. I cared about characters for the first three or four books but after a while, even something good can get old. Even poor 'lil Harry Potter could have concluded sooner, perhaps should have; authors need to recognize when the end has come - for a character or a story. Online reading I rarely even start anymore. Grammar mistakes, spelling errors, language that is too far over my head or too remedial; all those are fatalities as far as my reading habits are concerned. There may be some REALLY great ideas; however, the lack of editing or polish can keep a diamond in its rough state. And unnoticed.

Getting naked seems to be so difficult for so many. When I was young, I was proud of my body and had no problem hanging out at the nude beach or getting naked at the gym. Now, I'm just an old fart; however, my remains are not TOTALLY horrifying. Being a health club manager helped keep me in shape but no matter how diligent one is about diet and exercise, age will show on a body, that's just the way the world works. The older I've gotten, the less I care what the other guys think. The 8-pack abs are gone and the pecks have deflated, but my self-confidence has increased to compensate I guess. I wish more guys were comfortable with nudity. It's a shame really, we're all just people.
