Christianity is years behind a lot of things... as are most if not all organised religions. There is a reason for that... people don't like change. Organised religion suffers most from this. People set the rules accordng to the society they live in... they are rules for living the life they live. People like the rules because if they follow them they don't have to think and make hard decisions for themselves. But the society moves on and everything changes. But they don't want to change the rules because the rules are set in stone (literally) so they try to fit the rules into the framework of the society they are now living in...and they won't fit. But they still cant bear to change them because they have to be right... because they work (ed... once) and then they get twisted and warped and the more the society around them changes the more the rules warp and warp those who try to cling to them. It's sad but true. Of course there are adherents of many religions out there who do change. Either they change the rules or they change themselves and come to the sensible conclusion that they will follow them as far as possible and as far as they make sense but that they will follow the spirit of the rules rather than the letter so that when rules and conscience/society don't fit they can be ignored because that is what the spirit tells you to do... because the deep truth has nothng to do with petty rules and regulations or a collection of stories written from many different perspectives, by many people over a long period of time. The deep truth has everything do to with the way that people treat other people... with mercy, love, compassion and respect. At the end of the day if those four things are not at the core of the belief then it is not a beleif I would want to give the time of day to.

An English Teen, Circumcised in the USA...Nifty changes title.
Nephylim replied to Riley Jericho's topic in The Lounge
I'm a lawer but unfortunately not a media lawyer. However, as I understand it, the copyright always lies with the author unless specifically agreed otherwise. A licence gives someone the right to use some or all of the author's rights. My understanding from what I've heard is that Nifty has a licence (in perpetuity... ie forever) to display your work. That means you can't insist they take it down... ever. However just becuase they have a licence to display it doesnt mean they have the right to do anything else with it or to stop you form doing what you want with it. So for example they would not be able to sell it on or grant anyone else any licences without your permission and, although you can't take it down it doesn't stop you selling it on. HOWEVER. This is just my gut feeling from what I know generally about licenses and it would all depend on the precise terms of the contract you agreed to when you posted on the site. -
I can't say I disagree with anything you say there. It's always a tragedy when someone so young is hurt so badly they feel the only way out is the ultimate sacrifice. Sometimes I think if only people can think sometimes of the effect their actions have on others... to care... to be honest about what they are doing. It's crazy isn't it? We have to have a license to own a dog and if we mistreat them we get hauled off to court and fined. We don't need a license to have a child and if we treat them like shit then what do we get? A pat on the back by the members of our community who have 'told you that you should have kicked the little shit out years ago'. Sometimes life sucks. However.... You lost one kid. There is no doubt that this is tragic. But how many have you saved? It is always easier, when something like this happens, to focus on the negaitves and you don't get much more negative than teen suicide, but a crisis centre is always going to be a last resort. By the time people get to you they are already in crisis... and the fact that there are even some of them that survive and move on is a huge success story. I sincerely hope that you continue to have more successes than failures and send my thoughts to the family and friends of those who don't make it.

Unless something happens very quickly with regard to my house selling there is no way I can find the money to get there. At my most conservative estimate and practically travelling in the luggage compartment of the plane It's going to cost more than

Very nice story. I'm glad you persevered

I love writing sex scenes but it is difficult to be creative after a couple of times... I mean how many ways are there to describe the same thing? Hmmm...quite a few actually.

I don't know whether I am the right person to answer this question because my stories are entirely self driven, in the sense that they drive me. The idea comes to me and I sit and write it, the words and characters going in their own directions. Sometimes that direction takes them into sex, sometimes not. I don't use sex as a device or a hook and neither do I balk from doing it if it comes to me. I absolutely agree that in oder to mantain writing integrity, which is important to me, a writer should follow their heart and their art. They either listen to their muse or they don't in which case the muse gets pissed and either leaves them or messes with them. The question should be self answering... if the story asks for it then do it, if it doesn't don't. If you put in sex just for the sake of it, if you don't really want to do it then the scene is simply not going to be good. It will be wooden, contrived and boring. There has to be feeling in it to get feelings out of it.

South African Lesbians facing "corrective" rape
Nephylim replied to JamesSavik's topic in The Lounge
Sometimes all I can do is give thanks that the accident of birth placed me where it did, That is terrible. I am still shocked at what people are prepared to do to each other. -
AWESOME!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY

I'm glad you came out of the posting closet and hope to see you around more now you're out

I've never heard of it but from the line you quoted it sounds like it might be fun. Not sure I can empathise with the writer though... I mean eighteen? I was enjoying my farts way before puberty.

I would never ever ever turn down sex or a relationship with someone purely because of their sex... or even their sexual preference. I mean at that time their preference was me so what's the big deal? I agree wholly... we are all human and as I keep saying and you must be bored of by now... love comes so seldom don't turn it down because of the way it's packaged

Watchit you... you're younger than me... although with much the same philosophy

WOW!!! It's your birthday HAPPY BIRTHDAY @-->-- Have a great one

I vote we throw rotten tomatoes at Riley until he puts the chapter back I leave it to you to decide whether to take them out of the tin.

I'm biting my tongue.... which is very unusual for me and quite painful too. As someone who has never been afraid to shock and challenge I find this very hard to swallow. If you don't like the story don't read it. Some of us actually want to.

I'm sorry, I must be musically challenged but I can't see it at all. The Men at Work song is so compltely different. The sound is not in any way similar and... okay there is a flavour IF you know what you're looking for but I would be very surprised if they stole the riff or even knew it was from that song. There are lots of riffs in lots of songs which sound a bit like or very much like riffs in other songs. I always believed that if you take someone else's creation and drastically rework it usuing your skill then there is no action available. The example we were given in Law School was the Constable Painting that was used 1. on a chocolate box lid and 2. in a cross stitch. The chocolate box company was in breach because they simply reproduced it but the cross stitcher wasn't because she had radially adapted it and used her own skills in reworking it. I would suggest that this is what happened here and if this case were brought in the UK it would fail

Okay.... I wasn't sure about this programme... until my son got majorly into it. Now I am a complete addict. I have to say that my favourite character isn't on your list. he only appeared in a couple of episodes but I think Menma is totally awesome and I cried when he died. I actually learned to play Sadness and Sorrow on the Ocarina because of him... I mean i had never heard ot an Ocarina before. I think Kakashi is hot as hell and the episodes when he was young and in Minola's team with Obito Uchiha were totally fab. Efan made me paint a picture with him of the group and it was real fun. I also love Shikamaru because he has totally awesome skills but is so... I'm so bored... it's such a draaaag. Awesome It's been expensive for me though because we have more Naruto crap in my house than anything else... except perhaps Yu Gi Oh cards.
