It was the first day of October. The Pumpkin Patch was all a buzz with the talk of who was going to be picked as the winner of the Halloween Pumpkin Contest. Every year it was always some big studly pumpkin that was mean to the other pumpkins. He always intimidated the others in the contest to back out so he would be picked to win. But this year an unexpected surprise was about to happen.

Zach’s father is a southern Baptist minister and this creates a major problem for his son. Zach’s gay and has heard his father preach against homosexuality many times. This leaves Zach in conflict with his faith. How is he going to resolve this predicament?

Win comes from a wealthy home and is quite happy, until his father dies in a freak accident. This leaves him alone with his alcoholic and mentally absent mother. When she starts dating Bart, Win’s world suddenly starts to come crashing around him. Is there any hope for him?

Billy is from a poor family and lives on a small farm with his single mother and grandparents. Billy is instantly attracted to the new kid, David, but there might be a problem. David’s father isn’t happy with them being friends. Can they convince him to accept their friendship? (This story is set in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tony and Jordan are life-long friends and do everything together. Tony even helps Jordan get through one of the most devastating times in his life, but that all changes when Tony learns Jordan’s secret. Will they be able to get past this or will his discovery end their friendship? The story takes them from seventh to eleventh grade>
