NaPoWriMo - 1. The first 3 days - Friday to Sunday

I wrote 5 in the first three days so I thought I should publish them ... Hope you enjoy them. And well I can't speak for the quality, the idea is just to write them, so here they are.

30 Poems in 30 Days

Mental! That was my first thought when I read Valkyrie's post about this challenge. NO WAY was I going to try it (too much pressure), but then Cynus wrote one. I'd been moaning about having nothing to do, so wrote a poem on Friday April 1 - the first day. And well I haven't stopped.

There are prompts which are optional and on day one and two, I wrote just something from me and a prompt response.

Okay here we go ...

Day 1 - April 1, 2016 - wrote two this day.

He

Forsaken, he is alone—unwanted

Unloved in a world of the beloved

Bereft of what others share

He can only observe, never be

He walks alone down the dusty street

Knowing what he leaves behind

His wake filled with tears and others pain

The dregs of a life unfinished—undone

The prompt for the first day was to write a Lune, or an American Haiku. It was developed by poet Robert Kelly. It is usually done in 5 – 3 – 5:

In the darkest night

Pull me close

Strong arms hold me tight

Day 2 - April 2, 2016 - Also wrote two this day.

New Friends

I watch you from afar each day

Wishing you’d notice me and stay

Should I take a chance and speak

It’s only friendship that I seek

I see your smile, my heart leaps

Want you forever and for keeps

Bravely I tell you; share my hope

You’re kind while you try to cope

Sorry you say—you’re mistaken

So I beg you, please, please listen

What I feel for you is deep

I want you so, it makes me weep

Smiling you tell me to be strong

You’re sure that we’d get along

We take a walk, hand-in-hand

There is nothing we can’t withstand

Day 2 prompt – Write something taken from a family portrait:

Empty

There are no pictures of my family

As you will know, I’m glad you see

For that picture surely would capture

The empty spaces where love should be

Day 3 - April 3, 2016 – I challenge you to write a poem in the form of a fan letter to a celebrity. Now, this could be a celebrity from long ago, and needn’t be an actor or singer (though it could be).

To: Sir John A MacDonald:

The Father of Confederation

Our first PM, leader of our nation

Came here young, became a lawyer

You always were a heavy drinker

A big mistake was Louis Riel

Even this was not a death knell

Your legacy had other issues too,

Canada would be less—but for you.

Let's see what the next days bring ... thanks to all who bravely read these!

All out of likes (nothing new about that):heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: ... three for three

You have only just begun this challenge, but I have to say you made it out of the gate and are heading to the first turn with grace and speed. These poems are outstanding, be very proud of yourself. I know I am.

As always, nicely done.

Aw Reader, thanks. I never thought of myself as a thoroughbred! Thanks for the love and the comments! I appreciate it.

I really loved that you would write to John A MacDonald. Awesome. Your family portrait poem touched me deeply, as did your poem about wanting to be friends. I can relate to this last, especially. Beautiful writing, Tim!

Thanks Parker ... Glad you liked these poems. It's a pretty cool challenge but there's another 27 days to go.. that's a long way. But we'll get it done...

You are very gifted when it comes to getting to the heart of an emotion while keeping it seemingly simple and straightforward. Empty hit me like a punch to the gut. So strong.

Thank you Pup!! I appreciate you reading these. I'm glad Empty worked, sadly it happens to be true.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Bravo tim... Never had a doubt you could do this.

The poems are striking in their brevity. He and Empty touched me the most emotionally, but I liked the others too.

Great job I can't wait to see what the next 27 days turn up..

Aw thank you Def! Oh I am a bit worried about the next 27 days but we'll see. I'm glad you liked those two, I think they are my favs as well.

Thanks again, tim xo

Gosh, they're all so wonderful. You have metre beating in your blood, and poetic insight flashing behind your vision. They all amaze me

AC, thank you very much. Once I got the metre thing, it never turns off. You said to me when I struggled so, that once I got, I'd got it! You were right. I'm glad these worked.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I hope I can maintain this for the next 27 days!!

He and Empty both brought tears to my eyes. I really enjoyed New Friends; that was a happy poem. :)

You are a wonderful poet, Tim. On to the next poems...

I write some happy stuff. Like the black bears picnic. ..in timmys journal! Thanks for reading these. Normally I'd work on these more, but you are just supposed to write them.

Thanks Lisa!
