Cider Press - 12. Invitation

The solstice means the end of the Autumn Cider Press. I hope you enjoyed this small collection, and I invite you to bring your own harvest to press, too.

Invitation

Come, sweet dying, blest disorder,
overwhelm and give no quarter,
climbing up the mountain higher,
crest the peak, and cross the border.

Come, descendant of desire,
sweep the hearth and stoke the fire,
visit with your fleet delighting,
joy our very souls inspire.

Come, the blanket's so inviting,
deeper knowledge there inciting,
kiss begun in languid leisure,
every muscle now uniting;

Come, fruition of our pleasure,
let us join in fullest measure,
scorn pale virtue as our warder,
while we delve for passion's treasure.

Leave a comment or a note; I will be glad to see it.

one of my favorite Holidays! sad to see the autumn end but looking forwards to the holly, mistletoe and white dragons

Thr solstice heartens me. Days will lengthen, even as the winter day go on. The cold will not be forever. But in the meantime, let there be fires, and warmth, and every good thing we celebrate. Thank you for reading!

Thank you for these evocative poems on an autumnal theme. Wonderful.

Thank you too for introducing me to the Rubaiyat and especially its interlocked form. The latter appeals to my sense of symmetry.

Best wishes to you and your readers for the holidays and 2018.

I am very glad you have enjoyed these. I would encourage you to explore the whole poetry writing series put together by @AC Benus, and perhaps write some of your own. The symmetry and interwoven nature of these appeals deeply to me, too. Thank you so much for your comments.
