The Mantis Equilibrium - Book Two - 33. Chapter 33 - The Beginning
Lahari launched herself up through the hole in the ceiling that Gawa blasted with her purple lightning, and she landed between Vion and the scantily-clad Principal Messiah. They were already stunned from the blast, but the two of them were even more shocked by Lahari’s physical appearance. Her unique blue scaly skin and black quills made her look armored, and her appearance seemed monstrous to the two Messiahs.
“What the fuck are you?!” the woman shrieked from her bed.
S’Kay and Gawa soared through the hole in the floor next. The bird-woman landed to one side of Lahari, and the Biological Shift who looked like living stone landed to her other.
Eroli climbed up after them and growled. He shook his fur and extended his claws to their full length.
“Kill those fucking freaks!” the Principal Messiah screamed at Vion, but S’Kay leapt at the bed.
The Principal Messiah tried to back away, but she became tangled in the sheets, and S’Kay wrapped her arms around the woman. Many of her feathers caused tiny wounds all over her body, and she let out a single scream, as the energies within S’Kay began to liquefy the Principal Messiah’s flesh from her bones. Her body shook violently, but that only made her melting meat dissolve faster. Green bones protruded from her destroyed corpse.
“You’re the scum I’ve been looking for!” Vion bellowed, but instead of attacking them, he took a fearful step back.
S’Kay climbed off of the slimy green skeleton of the Principal Messiah, and the four Biological Shifts stared at Vion.
“Keep away from me, you murderers! Stay back!”
Eroli dove for him and the two collided. Vion gasped and Eroli let out a wheeze.
Gawa froze. “No!” she wailed.
Both Vion and Eroli struck killing blows.
Eroli’s chest was caved in, buckled like dented metal. His eyes were wide in wild horror. He struggled to take shallow and ragged breaths.
Vion, however, was motionless. The color was no longer in his eyes. Then the hue began to disappear from his skin, as well. Soon, the High Truth Seeker of the Messiahs was little more than a crystalline shell of his former self.
Eroli’s claws slid from Vion’s chest, as the two men fell to the ground.
Vion’s body shattered.
Gawa rushed to her fellow Biological Shift and fell to her knees. “Eroli,” she whispered, as he released his final gasping breath. Gawa let out a pitiful sob and began to cry.
S’Kay knelt beside Gawa and let out a sorrowful sigh. Tears streamed down her feathered cheeks.
The old Oselian viewing platform looked over Teshon Harbor, and Lahari stepped up to gaze out at the panoramic view. Then she turned back to Gawa and S’Kay and said, “This is just the beginning.”★
