David C. McLavic - 18. Chapter 18

School seemed to pass quickly. I am packing to visit Carl for the summer. Beth Ann will go to Uncle Joe’s reservation for the summer.

Dad gave me my train tickets and took me to the station. Boarding the train, my seat was in the coach section, no private room, I was okay with that, The seat folded back into a bed. I asked the conductor how long before we reached Pittsburgh. He said by noon tomorrow we would be close to Pittsburgh.

Unlike the dining room we had when we came on the train with Mom, they had a cart with the food on it. You could take what you wanted and then the cart moved on to the next row.

When it was evening, the conductor brought me a blanket and a pillow. The back of the seat reclined providing a bed. It was comfortable and I was okay with that.

The morning urges woke me and I had to find a bathroom. I remember seeing one when I boarded, I headed to the end of the train car. There were two but both were busy. The conductor saw me waiting and said there were bathrooms at the next car., I headed there.

Returning to my seat, the breakfast cart came. “How soon will we be in Pittsburgh?”

“We aren’t stopping in Pittsburgh. This is a direct run to Philadelphia. No stops until we reached Philly.”

I wondered why Dad didn’t say anything. There wasn’t anything I could do about that. This will give me an opportunity to thank Uncle Harry for shipping Dad’s furniture, books and papers. The conductor told me it would take about seven hours for the train to reach Philadelphia. I just laid back in my seat thinking of why Dad is sending me to Philadelphia instead of Pittsburgh. The only reason I could think of is that Uncle Harry had asked Dad to book this train to Philadelphia

Arriving in Philadelphia, I was anxious to see Uncle Harry. If Dad booked me here then Uncle Harry just have asked him and now maybe I’ll find out why.
