David C. McLavic - 42. Chapter 42
The weather started to turn cold almost over night. Two days ago, I was searching for wood with a light sweater on. Now I needed a jacket. You could see the frost on my windows and old Wolf didn’t hang outside. It was out, do you job and back in. During the summer and on warm days, he took the time to check out the area around the cabin, but not now.
Bobby made frequent over nighters, He would arrive early afternoon and stay until early afternoon the next day, or days. He was good company for me, and I used the time for teaching him.
“David, my brother would like to take a look at your cabin. His is very small and I told him about yours.”
“Where does he live?”
“He has a place at Crystal Lake.”
I have never been to Crystal Lake, it was one of those places I meant to go and never did.
“Sure Bobby just let me know.”
“How about now? They are at mom and dad’s place.”
“Sure bring them up. I’ll put the tea on.”
I thought one maybe two, but there were four with Bobby. His brother was married and they were expecting their first child.
Bobby’s father had seen the cabin as he helped with the out house and when the cabin was delivered. But his mother hadn’t and of course his brother and his wife hadn’t.
When they arrived, it was Bobby who showed them the cabin. My cabin was designed for one person and too small for a family with a child pending. If Bobby’s brother wanted a new cabin to include his family, I would have to design it. Now I had an excuse to visit Crystal Lake. If I forgot, Bobby would remind me.
Over the next few days, I played around with some ideas. Once I had a rough drawing, I would ask Bobby what he thought. Eventually, I made plans to drive to Crystal Lake. But I didn’t go alone, Bobby had to come as well.
The drive to Crystal Lake was quick, how long does it take to drive 25-30 miles. Arriving, I now knew where the name Crystal Lake came from. The lake reflected the sun giving the surface the look of melted silver. Water from the mountain fed into the lake and as I suspect the water that flowed past my cabin ended up in the lake.
