David C. McLavic - 35. Chapter 35
As David opened the door, he smiled as he looked at the empty cabin.
Bobby smiled as David showed him the bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The way David acted, you would have thought the cabin had furniture in place.
With Bobby's help, David began to move the furniture he had stored in the shed into the cabin. The first thing David did was to hang the battery-powered light over the front door. Watching David made you laugh. With each item installed in the cabin, he would stop and smile This was his home, he would smile at Bobby saying, "My home.:" Bobby would laugh.
With all of the furniture moved from the shed to the cabin, David and. Bobby went to the Lodge for a late dinner. Of course, Bobby had to tell Michael about the cabin. Now Michael wanted to see the cabin.
David knew the men who helped with the outhouse and shed would also want to see the cabin. He told Bobby that after he had all of his furniture installed, he would invite the men who helped to a dinner party of hot dogs. Bobby laughed, he was happy David would be his neighbor.
David now needed to focus on providing furniture. He bought a second-hand table and two chairs from the second-hand shop next to Mrs. Cummings' boarding house. With Bobby's help, he moved this from the shed to the cabin. Having a table and chairs seemed to be the ignitor for David. Along with Bobby, David drove home. He had a bed in mind.
Arriving home, he told his dad he was going to take some of the furniture Uncle Harry sent. Uncle Joe and his dad helped him load the cot and a bookcase . With that load, David and Bobby were headed back to the cabin. The guys didn't think, now they had to carry the furniture up the mountain to the cabin.
Over the next few weeks, they made several trips home. At Beth Ann's husband; 's store they bought a two-seat sofa that opened up into a single bed They bought a rocking chair and several cushions.
From his home, he took books and more clothes. On one of his trips, he brought back a wardrobe that was Beth Ann's.
The hardest part was carrying these items up the mountains to his cabin. With each piece of furniture placed in the cabin, he would stop, smile, and say to Bobby, "My home."
