Worthington Manor - 3. Chapter 3
Justin was surprised at how friendly and welcoming they were. He expected a little bit more resistance than what had occurred. He went to the counter to order a burger and fries. He decided to wait at the counter for his meal. As he was waiting, Laura showed up next to him.
“Oh, hey…Laura right?” asked Justin
“Very good Justin”
“Sorry, I’m not used to meeting new friends. I’ve lived in Chicago all of my life up until now and I haven’t really needed to meet anyone new.” said Justin
“That’s okay; I know what you’re going through. I was the new kid in town about a year ago.”
Justin had noticed that that guy Kale was giving him the evil eye.
“Looks like your boyfriend doesn’t like us talking” said Justin
“Oh he’s not my boyfriend, we’re really close though. We were actually really close to going out once though.” said Laura
“Oh, I see”
“Aren’t you going to ask me what happened?” asked Laura
“It’s none of my business.” said Justin
“Wow, a city boy with manors.” said Laura. “I like that.”
“Yeah, my mom rips into us if we’re not polite at all times.”
“Oh so you have brothers and sisters?”
“Yeah, I have and older brother and little brother and sister.” said Justin
“Wow, I wish I had siblings. Sometimes life can get so lonely.”
“Yeah, they’re great when you’re bored, but they can also be really annoying.” said Justin
“So, do you have a girlfriend?” asked Laura
Justin thought to himself; ‘How did I know that was coming?’
“No”
“Good; it would’ve been a damn shame if you did.” said Laura
“Why?”
“Cause I was wondering if you would like to go out some time.” said Laura
‘Awkward’, thought Justin.
“I would love to…”
And before he could throw in the ‘but’ that he was going to throw in…
“Great!” she said as she wrapped his arms around him and kissed him on the cheeks.
She left back to her booth and he could see all of the girls giggling and looking at him and then giggling some more. ‘Great’, though Justin. Then he saw Luke making his way towards him.
“Wow, only been here one day and you already have a date.” said Luke
“That’s just the thing Luke…”
“What?”
“I wasn’t going to say yes to her.”
“But didn’t you?”
“She didn’t let me finish.” said Justin
“Well what did you say?”
“Well I said that I would love to and I was going to put in a but before that but before I could she was gone.”
“What were going to say after that?”
“I was going to say that I’m really not interested in her.”
“Why not she’s hot?”
“She’s not really my type.”
“What would make her your type?”
“Um, if she was a guy.” said Justin
“Oh….you’re…”
“Yeah”
“I see where your problem is.”
“You mean you don’t care.” said Justin
“No, I have a gay cousin. It’s no big deal to me.”
“You think you can help me out here?”
“Hey, you got yourself into this mess, you can get yourself out.” said Luke
“Some friend you are.” said Justin
“Hey we only just met. Yeah, I’m your friend but I would have said the same thing to my best of friends.” said Luke
“Well can you at least tell her that I would like to talk?” asked Justin
“I can do that much, yeah.” said Luke
“Thanks.”
Luke went back over to the booths and told Laura to go over to Justin because he wanted to talk.
“Hey, Luke said you wanted to talk. You could’ve asked me yourself.” said Laura
The waiter put his burger down in front of him and Justin put his money down on the counter.
“Listen Laura I know you’re excited about this date…”
“Oh yeah, can we go to the cinema?” asked Laura
“Can you let me finish?” asked Justin as politely as he could.
“Sure, sorry.”
“I know you think that I was going to say yes, but you didn’t let me finish.” said Justin
“Oh, you weren’t going to say yes?” asked Laura as she put her head down in embarrassment.
“I’m sorry Laura but I’m just not interested.” said Justin
“Is there a reason?” asked Laura
“Yes”
“Well what is it?”
“You’re just not my type is all.”
“Oh, well that’s shallow.”
“No not like that. You’re a beautiful girl, you really are.”
“Then I don’t see what the problem is. Do you just not want a girlfriend?”
“No I don’t want a girlfriend. I never have.” said Justin
“Why not? Are you a fag or something?” asked Laura
“Yes, I’m gay.”
“Oh my God I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean…”
“That’s cool; I’m hardly offended by that word anymore. I got enough of it at home to get used to it.”
She bit her lip in guilt.
