Three Weeks Dead

Everyone, and I mean everyone, said that looking for a house would take forever. My sister in law told us to be prepared to look for a year, others said we would see dozens of properties, and good friends of ours said that we were more than likely to need to spent six months firming up our credit rating. This last was especially worrying, especially since we were told that without any loans or regular credit card actions, our credit rating would likely be lower (purely through being non-existent).

And despite one very judgmental mortgage adviser, a bank who didn't like us, and so many large numbers I went a bit head-blind on the left side, we have it in the bag.

Exactly three weeks after making the decision to buy a house, we have put reservation money down on a semi-detached new build property and spent three hours at the offices looking at options for our new and rather large kitchen. And I'm gonna get exactly what I want.

Solicitor phone call happens tomorrow, and the mortgage brokers come for their meeting Tuesday. The house will be completed (it's not fully built yet) at the end of March to the middle of April, so we'll be all moved in by our birthdays.

Wish us luck, we'll have chickens roosting by the time we cut hay...

I guess it depends.  I got my house in two weeks, it took my sister over a year.  Good luck on the new place!

I feel that we may be a small minority. Well done you though, and do you still love it?

It took me about nine months and looking at dozens of houses before I found mine.  Congrats on finding one so quickly.  It's such an exciting feeling, isn't it?  :)

We found our first house within a week of deciding we were going to start looking (there was some weird cosmic timing thing happening there) and I loved it until we had to move about 5 hours away. If I could have I would have transported the house with us. On the other hand a friend of mine took 2 years to find what she wanted. You just never know.

Congratulations!  We also found our within a couple weeks.  We weren't even really looking much, just sort of browsing and really liked this house.  I guess it just depends--when you find the house, you just know and sometimes it's right there and sometimes it's not.  Good luck!

I've been in my place for a little over 2 years and I'm still delighted with it.  (It was a rough start at first, figuring out how things worked, but it's smooth sailing for right now).  My circumstances were a little bit different, I was desperate to get out of my parent's house before my father and I killed each other, but my sister had plenty of time to shop around  :P

We ordered our house from the builder based on a display model and had to pick out everything from flooring, to fixtures, hardware, paint colors, ceramic tile in the bathrooms etc.  That was in April 1975.  Ground was broken in early June and we moved in after closing on September 15, 1975.  It will be forty years ago this September.  It seems ridiculous that it could be so long ago....

Good luck and I hope you love your new house as much as we love ours.  DDK
