A Dental Update

Hey everyone!

So, Wednesday morning, I woke up with an annoying ache in one of my teeth. At first, I was able to ignore it since it was more a nuisance than an actual pain, but the ache began to intensify later that afternoon and really got bad at night (to the point where I wasn't able to sleep :( ). Well, Thursday morning saw me at the dentist's office to make an emergency appointment, and thankfully they had a slot opened for 11:30 AM, which meant I didn't have to wait that for long.

The dentist quickly found what the problem was: my right mandibular first molar was infected. He told me that I would either have to have a root canal :o or a dental extraction . However neither of those options could happen until my infection went away, so he wrote two prescriptions for an antibiotic (Penicillin) and a painkiller (Tylenol) for me to take in the meantime.

After considering the costs for each procedure, I decided for the extraction since it was more affordable. Before I left the office, I set up an appointment for the extraction next Wednesday, and then I went to the pharmacy to get my prescriptions.

So what happened afterwards? Well, when I got back home, I took the Penicillin and the Tylenol and when the ache abated, I finally got some much needed rest.

As for today, the ache isn't anywhere near as bad as it was Wednesday night. All in all, I'm doing well. :)

I feel for you, Drew. Teeth pain is the absolute worst. I will say I'm glad you're getting it taken care of. I can tell you from personal experience that it tends to just keep coming back. It will start feeling even better as the infection goes away, but keep that appointment. Just because it feels better doesn't mean it will keep feeling better.

I go in the end of this month to have more work done on my teeth, and they've already pulled the 5 that repeatedly got infected. This is a case of "Do as I say, not as I do" lol.

Dentist gave me amoxicillin (also an antibiotic).  Hopefully you got better.  I'll find some way to get root canal done....

:stares at Drew's missing tooth:  It's kind of cute.  :gikkle:

I hope you get better soon and don't have too much pain now.  I feel sorry for you that you have to remove a tooth.

I am sorry that you have to go this painful way. I hope there is another remedy rather than pulling of the tooth. Why don't you look for some Ayurvedic remedy for it!!!?

And I am sorry I can't resist it... :gikkle:

Dental work is crazily expensive here too. It's not considered a medical issue (?) so not covered by our health coverage. I had an extraction and bone graft in preparation for an implant. Extraction and bone graft $900.00+ and implant $3,000.00+  Haven't quite decided if I'll go ahead with the implant. It's sooo expensive.

Look after yourself Drew and look after the rest of them!!
