Bug Fixes and New Goals Widget

Myr

We have posted a new version of Stories on the site.  Things are going well so far. It correct a number of small issues.  We've also added the ability to put up a goal box for feedback items.

You'll see it on various points on the site.

Can you explain what the Goal Box shows ? What does it mean when the box says 61 out of 90 new chapters and 787 out of 950 new chapter comments ?

@Timothy M. It means 61 out of 90 new chapters and 787 out of 950 new chapter comments.

61 means the number completed so far and 90 is the goal for the set period of time.  "New Chapter" is a newly posted chapter.  A "New Chapter Comment" is a newly posted chapter comment.

It's a proven fact that students learn better with visual cues and aids. If you want to teach someone how to do something, or ensure they remember to do something, you show them pictures. Pictures help cue the brain better than words. It's also a proven fact that when teams, companies, etc... are trying to increase productivity, ensure results, etc... they use a visual strategy. Days without injury? Marketing goals? Graphs, charts, we want to sell this many of that product????

Visual goals. They're EVERYWHERE.

Now we have them on GA due to Myr's creativity and hard work.

GA exists to bring stories to readers and readers to stories. We thrive on communication and feedback. Myr has ensured that we are attempting to employ scientific, PROVEN, methodology in a friendly, fun, way that will be helpful to some, unobtrusive to most, and yet just might help authors out with that end goal. It took time and effort and thought.

Thank you for explaining, Cia. The concept isn't something I was familiar with, so I was confused about the Goal Box purpose. Personally, I don't think it will motivate me, but hopefully the Goal Box will work as planned in general and be worth the work. I can see we're already exceeding expectations in three out of five categories.

Maybe marking a story complete could automatically create a link on the final chapter’s page to the story’s home page so more people would Review the story.

That is a good idea. I will add it to the feature request list for our programmer.

Who sets those levels of the goals?

I do.  The initial goals are based on our weekly average for the last few months.

🤦‍♀️ At first, I thought the goal was per story or author... 30 new chapters in a week would be a bit much. LOL This makes more sense.

But that would certainly put you on the Top Authors list!

My widget only shows numbers, with no explanation what the numbers mean.

I have a Samsung 7, if that could be of help.

I can confirm that's how it looks on the mobile site. Samsung Galaxy A6.

EDIT: I also like the new goal widget. It's nice to see activity, even if it isn't on your stories.

@Myr @wildone What do you think about adding how we did toward the goals into the Weekly Wrap Up?  I think it's a great visual encouragement, but once the new week starts, I have no idea if we met the goals or not.
