Life ... Really?
This morning i was thinking about a conversation i had with a fellow writer last night, about a forum post i read and a newspaper column i read a few minutes ago.
Then I thought, what the f*ck? If you took all of those and used them as examples to explain what life is and what living is, no one in their right mind would want to live one.
None of it was good news or happy news. My friend's life is hard right now. The forum post was from a writer whose life is painful and difficult due to mental illness. The newspaper article was about love and grief and a dead dog.
A year ago, I tried very hard to end my life. Very hard. There are lots of reasons why. It wasn't the first time, but i really meant it. Nearly succeeded. Mental health and mental illness are real things, a fact of life for lots of us. Made worse by things out of our control, like the pandemic.
There is so much negativity in our lives that sometimes it overwhelms us to the point we cannot see the point. Why go on? How to go on?
All we can do is pick up our feet one at a time and go forward. Reach out to others by talking and writing. Even a private message is a start.
Try to stop doing negative things ... we all know what they are. Doom scrolling, social media, alcohol and non-prescription drugs ... do something real, like walk outside, paint/colour a picture, knit, crochet, phone someone who cares about you. Exercise can make you feel better; outside is even better. Take a friend, and your pup/ (cat if willing!), if you have one.
Do something creative with your hands and brain, rather than watch other people's lives. Make your own.
Don't hide alone. People can be our enemy but also our salvation.
