Sick Day

What a weird day, Ive just got home from the hospital, having been taken in by ambulance from work. I was walking around the store with my dept. managers when all of a sudden I hit the floor, well thats what the Doc has told me since the last thing I remember is walking around telling them to do stuff. The next thing I know im lying in a hospital bed with a Doctor taking blood from me. The've told me they dont know whats up but that I need to take it easy for a few days, He's sending the blood off for analysis to see if it shows anything. He said my blood sugar levels were very low so maybe that has something to do with it??? Any hoo what it means for me is I have a very worried Chris to deal with, and a couple days off work. Going to go go to bed for a few hours cause i feel a bit dizzyCheerie bye for now :Ddave

ps. Chris, make sure he's eating properly and getting enough sleep. 0:) It might not hurt to keep him away from the pub's for a while also.

Just tell Chris that you promise to stay in bed if you can either take the laptop with you or have him to keep you company. How can he say no?

So were you eating correctly before you fainted or just since?

Low blood sugar can make you very lightheaded and dizzy if it drops too fast. Take care and do what the doctor says. Although....I've always wanted to visit Scotland. Just give me a reason...... 0:)

Well most of the time Chis and I eat our meals together so ive eaten the same full meals as him.

Ive convinced him to go to work now, ive promised to stay in bed. He's told me I can play with the laptop if I like as long as i sleep early, bless he's taken this really hard, with all the crap he's been through recently I hate to be adding to his stress. :(

Yikes! :(

How much sleep have you been getting, Dave? Sleep deprivation is a well known cause of seizures, even in totally normal healthy young people. Considering that this happened completely without warning, and that you were out for a while (however long it took for the ambulance to get to you, load you up, take you to the hospital, unload you into the ER bed, and the doctor to come see you = 15 minutes at least), there's a good possibility this was a seizure. Other causes of seizures include low blood sugar, alcohol withdrawal, & other metabolic stresses, or structural lesions (things you might pick up on an MRI).

If it wasn't a seizure, the other major cause of sudden loss of consciousness is loss of circulation to the brain. This is generally a cardiovascular issue, and comes in 2 flavors: (1) benign (simple faints; though usually when people are about to faint they feel lightheaded/queasy for a few seconds beforehand, rather than losing consciousness suddenly and without warning; also, people are usually out for only brief periods with simple faints), and (2) bad. This is generally some kind of electrical arrhythmia, where the heart beats either too fast or too slow to pump blood effectively. This is sometimes why healthy athletes can suddenly drop dead. The workup to rule out such things includes electrical studies like an electrocardiogram (looking for things like prolonged intervals or aberrant conduction) or ambulatory heart rhythm monitoring (called a "Holter" study here in the US), structural studies (like an echocardiogram), and exercise studies (a stress test).

You may not need all these studies or any of these studies....but you *SHOULD* get evaluated by someone in addition to the ER visit. Don't be stubborn, eh? If you resist, we'll sic Chris on you!

The other important thing is: SLEEP!!! No more staying up in chat to greet the dawn your time, ok? Go to sleep by 11:30 pm (your time) at latest, so you can get a minimum of 7 hours.

Little Brother...

WHAT are you doing??? If you wanted me to come over for a visit that badly then you should have just asked... I mean c'mon I would have done it for ya. Ok, really worried, and stopped reading Mike's comments, no offense to Dr. Mike cause I usually like to hear what he has to say, but it was scary to read this time... Anyway, this is me thinking of you and telling you to get better... or else...

Love,

Vivan

Dave and Chris,

I swear its a world gone awry...Dave, you keep your cute butt in bed or else we get some mean old ornery nurse to get you stay in bed.

And I agree with all that has been said...get you to your doctor STAT! When was your last annual physical? all the stress from work, which is new big job, the shit Chris is dealing with his family, finding a house to buy...getting hit in the nose by a wacko customer....you have had a few weeks/months....so get your buns to the doctor....

geez, imagine us all as your house guests....ok, fun but all that stress as we try to nurse/doctor you to good health....you have the best nurse there is..your hubby Chris..now get you to the doctor...just as you bugged Chris to go..now is your time....or else, my people (you know we Italians) know people who will make you an offer you can't refuse....so off to the doctor to avoid the wrath of Italians (worse yet, I will have my sisters nag you until you go to the doctor...that will have you running to China..so better you get to the doctor..!!)

Hugs and good thoughts go with you and Chris...give us the doctor's verdict when you go...and let us know you are going (how is that for nagging...but seriously..don't make us worry..please go....

worried in the states for you....and good thoughts you will be ok:)
