I kind of like the 'What If' short stories that Ty posts on his site at Stormnation. It lets you in on the what could have been but doesn't go into an epic story.

Oh that has me thinking about something really off the wall. A 'What If' story about Owen hooking up with Dennis and fighting Aiden. Told you it was an off the wall one.

Anyway, take care Dom. I look forward to reading Chapter 11.

Hey, glad you're feeling better. You make me feel so much better that I live in Hawaii, where the high and low today were 81 and 72.

As for the stories, if you feel like writing them and it's going to mess up the story for some one else, they need to just not read it or live with it. If nothing else it would be really cool to see what could have been.

I just read chapter 11 and loved it! Just so you know, the box at the top that says "chapter X: xxxxxx" says chapter 10 on chapter 11. It's very sad, but these are the kinds of things that I notice.

I love Taylor! He's the just the kind of sharp-witted smart alec I like! I used to hang with a guy like that who would show up to parties in a jesters hat.

Somehow I pictured him as a Seth Green type guy.

I guess if you wanted to do a short story based on TOU like a spin off, in the form of a short story or a shorter story than TOU, it just might work.

I'm not sure if I would use existing characters. Quinn and Taylor would never work (unless they were drunk and it would be over as soon as they sobered-up and a traumatic hangover for both of them).

Brad and Taylor might work but it would be a bi fling for Brad and a heartache for Taylor.

Jude and Taylor are cousins and since they aren't from Arkansas, don't go there.

One interesting thing that happens when people come out is others are emboldened and new people that were doing their best just to hide and blend into the woodwork may appear. If it were my story, this is the way I would go with it.

Please don't hurt Taylor or I'll cry. :(

Hmm. I'd probably skip it, cause personally, I find the "smut" sections of your story the least interesting. Probably because I have nothing to relate them to, or maybe because what I really want to continue reading the story... I mean, c'mon sex is sex... :P

I'll second that James on Taylor. He may be my favorite of all of your characters including the protagonists.

Thanks for getting out these DD Chapters so fast!

Well, I never said I was going to do any of this. I just wanted to know how people felt about the concept in general. I was just talking to someone about it and he mentioned it would be like slashing my own work. I guess it would be better than someone else doing it... but I still don

Chapter 11 is great. The only possible criticism is the cruel and unusual wait for Chapter 12. I suspect the what if stories are a bad idea and would end up taking as much energy as the 'real' stories, but if you're ever tempted I think you should dispose of Quinn in some instantaneous and painless way and have Jude run away to Arizona in his grief. Where he gets a job in construction And meets this guy Luke...

Oh, Alan! Luke and Jude together .... that would be fan-tastic! :D

Cruel, yes, but not unusual.

The guy's asking you to write fan fiction for your own fiction. That's just weird.

I think I'm only interested in the story as it is. I think unless the story is one of those experimental pieces that play with alternate storylines to begin with, I'm sort of repelled by remixes and what-ifs.

I'm trying to think of the name of this novel that was written fifteen years ago or so. It had the names of the two men as the title, and each chapter cast them in different roles with respect to each other.

Googling fails me. . . but I did find out that Ethan Mordden has written another book about the circle of friends -- he said he wasn't going to! Everybody go read Ethan Mordden now. Now!

I've a Feeling We're Not In Kansas Anymore

Buddies

Everybody Loves You

Some Men Are Lookers

and, not in the series and to my mind less successful,

How Long Has This Been Going On?

And now, back in the series,

How's Your Romance?

The books do not strictly have to be read in order but it pays to do so.

Dom,

Why mess with perfection...besides which the fantasies we all have of whom we would want to be with whom would only result in you being driven crazy with suggestions. This then results in lots of fights amongst your fans..those in the various camps of wanting different new lovers together.....oh the chaos and in the meantime your other stories get distracted and then you have to sort out the battles amongst the disgruntled fans....Ann has to play peacemaker (she always does..thanks Ann:) and your other fans want more chapters on other stories..

too exhausting to think about that chaos..as I said, why mess with perfection and leave the fantasies to our minds and various 'what if' blog postings...much more fun that way:)

and I am with Lucy..kinda icky that some guy wants you to write a fantasy piece just for him..weird foreplay is what I say...and too strange...its like he likes you for his fantasies of what he wants in a fantasy piece..

Ok, that's just wrong....as Lucy said..all too weird.

Just my two cents worth.

Well said Shadows, it's not that I don't like the "smut", in fact I do :P . But it has to be very tasteful and "feel" right, I wouldn't like it if the characters were just casually hooking up. I mean we can all find other places to read that kinda thing anyway, I think Dom's writing is so good because it's not really about the sex, it's about the people.

My general feeling is that I would HATE to see the characters mixed around. Especially breaking up Owen/Aiden or Quinn/Jude. The whole story (to me) made their relationships so central and important, I wouldn't like to imagine them with other people. And I wouldn't like Ryan getting with any of the guys because he's supposed to be straight, don't get me wrong, he sounded really hot and totally cool, but one of his best qualities was that he was a STRAIGHT guy who was so supportive of his gay friends. A spin off that stays true to the original story would always be fun though! Also I know someone said we could just not read it if we thought it would bother us, and that's probably very good reasoning, and in itself a sound enough excuse to do it if you want, but speaking for myself I know I'd end up reading it anyway, and then being ticked off because "I can't believe Owen did that!". :P

LOL Ok I would HATE the idea of Quinn being killed off, and even hate the idea that Jude would rapidly get over it, and go sleep with someone else. But on a purely physical level WOW Jude and Luke would be SO hot! LOL but I promise I don't REALLY want it 0:)

Anyway great job on chapter 11 Dom, I can't wait for 12 (but I will). Take care all and be safe!

yeah it would be interesting to read about, but u dont want your excellent writing to become like a bad soap opera where the people all start to mix together, or start to mingle with characters from the other soap opera. ok enuff of my opinion THANK YOU FOR 11!! :worship:

Hmmm, while it would be enjoyable to read, I think a fantasy smut story would kinda ruin the 'magic' you've created. To me, this is similar to a discuss we had in the forum where some people wrote that they didn't like when authors turned everyone in the story gay.

Your stories feel very real and writing something like this (or making someone a billionaire, or making everyone in a story gay, etc) would ruin this realism.

However, I could be persuaded to read a smut story about Owen and Nicky getting it on. :2thumbs:

OMG, I get excited just thinking about the possibilities!!!!! Nicky is still my favorite supporting actor (while Owen is my favorite main character).

While a fantasy smuth story between Owen & Nicky would create an EXCELLENT short term *ahemFixahem*, I thing it would damage the overall Domluka franchise.

Lucy, could you be talking about Dale Peck's "Martin and John"? The narrator, John, is a man who has lost his lover to AIDS, and he tells several different, alternate versions of his relationship with Martin as he comes to grips with his life and what has happened.

Cruel, yes, but not unusual.

Very good, glomph

BTW, I'll read anything you write, Dom. However, my preferences would be (1) I'd like to read more about Taylor, and (2) don't mess with the characters :D .

Oh yes, Kitty, that's the one! It's so hard to google for something when you can't remember the author or the title.

That book was so strange to read -- some of the chapters had me puzzled, and some were downright scary, and others were . . . I guess you'd have to say they were hot. It's really good.

I'm going to have to put my foot down on this one.... even though both feet are already on the floor... Anyway, NO SMUT THAT MESSES WITH CHARACTERS. My travels across Nifty left me with one simple conclusion, and that is that all of the best stories did NOT have characters sleeping around... with the exception of one story in particular about a boy who ran away from home, and traveled around the country, sleeping around here and there for drugs and money, ruining lives in some places, and making invaluable friends in others. There was a supporting piece that was started and I lost track of, but I'm not sure if it was ever finished because the author had died as a result of a traffic accident. I can't remember the name of the story, but the main character had driven a Chrylser Sebring Convertible with 20" chrome wheels and Pirelli tires when he was home at the start and end of the main story, if anyone else can think of it.

We've yet to see any slutty actions by Aaron (beyond a random kiss in front of god knows who in a dark tunnel), so of course DD is at the top of my must-read list :P
