A word I hate

Mark Arbour

There are words that annoy me, words that are over-used ("dude" comes to mind), offensive words, but the one word that just turns my stomach is "huggles." WTF is that? It's like taking the word hug and the word snuggle, mixing them together, and forming this bubble-gum cutesy word that makes me want to vomit. Christ. Throw in some baby talk and just finish the deal, make me puke my guts up.

It belongs with other cutesy shit, like rainbows and unicorns and ponies and puppies and kittens, used by people trying to look all sensitive and caring. Those are the people who have a knife in their other hand ready to lodge it in your back as soon as you turn around.

Huggles. It's just dumb. Not that I'm a bitter and skeptical person or anything.

I actually use it quite often. Usually because I think it sounds better than just hugs.

Maybe the fact I'm a girl and I like cute things also have to be taken into consideration :)

I don't really ever hear the word dude over here. though one friend does, but she is definitely the exception. never heard snuggles before either, but doesn't appeal either. I've heard 'squee' recently - but these type of words seem to be an internet thing as far as me coming across them :). another friend used to detest and feel sort of sick at the word 'chunks' though.

Smarties, I'm glad "huggles" hasn't penetrated your world yet.

And Sharon, three of those you listed are almost as bad as "huggles": prolly, whatev and anywho.

Here I come in response to Mark pimping his blog...only to find #7000 has been reached! :funny:

To get to the subject, I still recall director Mike Nichols deadpan reply to this question when he was honored on Actors Studio. He looked at the host, James Lipton, and muttered,

"Smegma."

Guess I'll choose the same word.
