Just curious -- I know the vote was unanimous, but what was the final voting tally? On the assumption that each person on the committee only voted once (which is the democratic way of doing thing), how many votes were tallied? I'm just wondering how the vote count compares with the number of people on the committee. :P

Well, with seven seats on the committee, and a unanimous vote (with no abstentions) I'll let you do the math. :P

Well, with seven seats on the committee, and a unanimous vote (with no abstentions) I'll let you do the math. :P

You misunderstand. I want to know what the vote count was. Since I'm aware that at least two of the seats are taken up by one person (because one person holds both titles), your statement implies that that person voted twice (which is very undemocratic). I would like to think that if the vote was truly democratic, there would be less than seven votes. Hence my interest in the total number of votes....

Ahhh, well, hrmmmm, I'm not sure quite what I can say without compromising the anonymity of the committee members.. I'm sure that in a case where one person holds two titles, the matter would be arbitrated by the writer support team lead, so surely there could be no improprieties. :)

In other words, you don't want to admit that the total number of people who voted was ... ONE. :P

Graeme! Are you suggesting that the voting, or the agust committee's careful considerations and deliberations, might possibly be less that forthright? I'm shocked, shocked I say, at this slander from down under! :P

That's not a denial, though... All you need to do is to post an accurate count of the number of votes made by the committee....

Very well, I suppose I can do that; each seat on the committee voted once, and only once, which makes seven. It's kind of like a shareholder's meeting; if you have more than one share, you get more than one vote, so it is, admittedly, possible that one individual might, possibly, have voted more than once, but was entitled to do so due to holding more than a single chair on the committee.

And Graeme, shame on you, for yet again questioning Shadowgod's perpetual title! :P

Ah ha! So it wasn't a democratic process, where one person has one vote. Despite what was claimed before....

Not the best example of what I call democracy (but as Graeme said, I'll shut up before going into politics)

Bah humbug!

I'd say more, but it would be straying into the area of politics, which is a big no no....

It was a very select committee, I assure you.

Speaking of direct democracy, I must say that I am delighted with the results of this poll, which not only say that Shadowgod does not use excessive cliffhangers, (I certainly don't think he does) but proclaimed, and by a wide margin confirm (as if there was ever any doubt) that Shadowgod is, now and forevermore, the

So, gentle person who wanders round these parts, become a media specialist yourself, by trying to reconcile and explain these two polls. You may question the sample, the questions, the weather when this took place, etc.

But how can one be the K.O.E.C-H when another has used the worst C-H? Rake your brains and tell me!

Allow me... :)

This is easy to explain... The question regarding whether or not the end of LIS 26 was the nastiest cliffie was rather slanted; one choice included the word "worse". These, obviously, have negative connotations, so obviously they resulted in polling bias. After all, I've certainly never said that Shadowgod's cliffhangers are bad; quite the opposite, they are superb! :great:

As for "most cliffhangers" and "worst cliffhangers", this too is an understandable confusion; the voters didn't take into accout the fact that, if any cliffhangers appear in my stories, they surely must have been inserted by Shadowgod during the beta.

And there you have it, my knotty friend. A perfectly understandable reason for what are, at first glance, confusing results. :)

Attention, Attention!

I thought it might be worthwhile to bring Google into this mess. Surely google knows, right?

go type

into google, and see what pops up as #1!

Yes indeed, I stand vindicated, becuase even google agrees! (Living in surreality comes up as #1)

Steve (Shadowgod), sorry but it is true. There is no ends to what CJ will do to get the results he so desires. He has gone to the length of manipulating the World Wide Web to his favour. So, before your name goes up in lights in Times Square, which I wouldn't put past CJ to hack into the computer control system and do, maybe it's time to accept the title, and move on.

And if I may be so bold as to recommend a first public announcement as the King of Evil Cliffhangers. You should now decree:

:king: :king: :king: CJAMES IS THE QUEEN OF EVIL CLIFFHANGERS :king: :king: :king:

And if you so choose, I would love to be a town crier, who will willingly spread this word throughout the land :worship: .

If you take a look at the second person on the google search, you will see who is second in line for the throne.

With your word, sire, your wish will be my command. :worship:

ACK! I never noticed #2... BUT, if you add a -shadowgod to that search, I don't come up at all, so :P

However, I need to remind everyone, DO NOT enclose "King of evil cliffhangers" in quotes, the search has to be done without quotes, and you will see that Shadowgod is #1, and therefor, Shadowgod is the King of Evil Cliffhangers! :2thumbs:

And Queen? ooooh, I'm so gonna get you for that... :P

Mmmm, I seem to recall a certain quote (fully attributed, of course) that I need to add to my siggy... There we go! :)

Now, as for putting Shadowgod and his title up on times square, that's a wonderful idea! :2thumbs:

I should also point out that C James is sadly mistaken. Google does NOT report Living in Surreality when searching on King of Evil Cliffhangers. It reports the discussion thread. The story itself doesn't appear at all. I would therefore say that Google believes the discussion thread is the King of Evil Cliffhangers -- with CJ's LTMP chapter 10 thread being runner up 0:)

Can anyone do some analysis on the Living in Surreality thread? Who has the most posts in it? It seems to me that Google is really saying that that person must be the King of Evil Cliffhangers....

Yes, that's interesting to use google. If you click on the first cached page while googling KOEC-H, you'll find out the first person to use the phrase, highlighted in yellow, is... Hey go ahead, check it yourself, but this will obviously be no surprise to anyone.

I like Wildone's suggestion. A whole royal family of cliff-hangers lovers. There are quite a few contenders, go figure... And the google search also gives herman from the Jedi Council Forums as a candidate to the title, though he's only a padawan.

Sorry to do this to you CJ, but I googled king of evil cliffhangers and didn't get the same results you did. In fact, this is what I found to be number 3 on the list.

Hrmmm??? I know google has a regional adjustment, but it seems to work elsewhere... Are you sure you didn't but the term in quotes? That gives very bad and indecipherable results.

:)

Well, of course it would report the discussion thread, as the words "King of Evil Cliffhangers" wouldn't be in the story itself. :P

But, as it is the discussion thread for the story, we can safely say that it is the stroy being referred to, so i do hereby declare victory!

Shadowgod's title is safe! :P

As for who posted the most in that thread, ummm, I dunno... Might be a glitch....

Now, now, Bondwriter, facts are facts, and cannot be denied; Shadowgod not only won the vote which confirmed his title, but google agrees. Surely this is enough for even the most devout skeptic?

Link to comment
Nope :D

Hrmmm... Okay, given that his title is verified three times (Committee, vote, and google), and he admits holding the cliffhanger throne himself, what will it take to convince you that Shadowgod is the :king: King of evil cliffhangers :king: ?

And sorry Kevin, this kinda throws the alphabetical thing out the window too. As there is nine people with names starting alphabetically before CJames B) .

And may I suggest that each member of the family is duly elected by a committee that contains no members of a previous committee to choose a title for said author :graduated: .

Firstly, I don't accept the vote of the committee as it was not open to any scrutineering that I can accept. Secondly, I don't accept that Google is proclaiming him the :king: king of evil cliffhanger :king: , either. As I indicated above, the much more likely interpretation is that the person who posted the most in that thread is whom Google thinks is the :king: King of Evil Cliffhangers :king: . As for the vote, that was contaminated by a documented extortion threat. We have no way to ascertain the extent that any voted "Yes" because of that extortion, so we have to consider the results to be questionable.

However, the question you asked is what would it take to convince me. That's easy -- he needs to write and post a lot more stories, and then I'll examine them for cliffhangers. If he writes enough and they are of what I consider to be sufficient quality, then yes, I'll agree he can have that title. Shall we wait until he's finished another two novels, say, and then revisit the situation?

Shadowgod -- when do you think you can have your next two novels finished?
