Great chapter Graeme

Plenty of things to give Rick short of a brain rupture.

Now James makes it harder on Rick by giving him advice.

James just being near him will make Drew very angry.

If he sees the both of them together - Drew might get physical!!

James could be Rick's hail Mary answer - thats if Rick can foster Drew's lost love for James

Otherwise Rick still have to look for a solution to his ever growing mess.

Ok its going to be two weeks story time.

But it feels like a couple of weeks compressed into two weeks.

If Rick does consider trying to put James back to Drew, it means two things.

One spending time with James to get to know him a bit.

Two the risk of getting caught and both getting ostracized.

As it is election time again at GA, and Graeme is eleigable for two categories (Best non-ga story and King of Cliffhangers) I thought I'd be helpful and post a synopsis of some of the TPoF cliffhangers...

Chapter 5

"I couldn't respond.

"Stop it, Phil. You're going to kill him!"

I felt a kick to my head, and then my lights went out."

Now this is the most diabolical of Cliffhangers! We don't know if Rick survives, how bad he's hurt, or.. anything! We're left hanging!!

B) ......................Hahaha!!! I got to agree with Chapter 5's ending, it was indeed a cliffhanger

Chapter 10 of The Price of Friendship is up.

Regardless of what CJ and Benji may or may not see, I will officially declare this chapter 100% cliffhanger free :P .

After reading, I wonder if Rick has a little plan forming in him mind to try and get James and Drew back together. Hypothetically speaking, if Rick can get Drew to change his opinion of James, maybe he can reveal his secret to Rick or disguise it as a 'phase' and say how he doesn't want to interfere with Drew and James having a true relationship.

Just guessing :D .

And then there is Sue....

I will probably take some heat for this, but I didn't really like the way she was treating Rick in this chapter. She seems to be a bit two faced by her reactions. One minute she is all in favour of the idea of Rick and Drew, but turns very quick to glaring and mistrusting Rick. Just my initial feeling about her, but I'm probably wrong in this....once again.

Thanks for the chapter Graeme :worship: .

I liked the humor that I found in this chapter.

I'm guessing that Sue is starting to suspect the truth about Rick.

No, no cliffhangers here Steve. Hahaha!! Sue is a bit more protective, but I don't see her being two-faced. Rick has accomplished his goal of getting Drew and James to at least talk again. And in Drew's exuberance has shocked Ricks Mom, Geeze, couldn't they have done out of her sight. Rick has really gotten himself into how do ya'll say that? 'A sticky wicket'?

It would certainly solve a lot of his problems. But how does he convince Drew to give up the guy he loves for the guy who cheated on him?

If you go back to chapter one, you'll find that Sue warned Rick there that her priority is in making sure Drew doesn't get hurt, as per the quote below.

Benji, Drew doesn't see anything wrong with kissing his boyfriend. He didn't really think that Rick's mother may not be as understanding, but then Drew's got a reputation for acting without a lot of fore-thought :D

“Rick, I’m sorry if this is going to sound a bit harsh, but Drew’s been through a lot over the last few years, and I don’t want him hurt.” She fixed me with a stern gaze.

I returned an equally serious stare. “He’s told me a little bit about it. There’s no way I want to hurt him. He’s very important to me.” As my first friend in years, I wasn’t going to do anything that upset him. He was also my gateway to social acceptance, and I wasn’t going to mess that up if I could help it.

“Good. He’s been down in the dumps since he found out his last boyfriend was cheating on him, so if you do the same, I’ll rip your bloody balls off. And don’t think that’s a figure of speech!”

She's still keeping an eye out to make sure Rick isn't cheating on Drew. I think her behaviour is consistent with that.

Thanks for the chapter Graeme :worship: .

Rick has gotten Drew to see for himself what James is all about. Of course Drew is curious of Ricks intentions and what underhandedness that james may have. Rick motive is definitely purely independent of the group. The group decided that since Drew was hurt then James is an outcast of the group. Rick I believe is showing that you can't judge a book by its covers. Its like how can you judge someone for one digression. (or can teenagers understand - that they make a lot of mistakes more than adults.) I think Rick also wants to see what kind of person James is really about. I think Drew will learn a lesson from the very least - learning to forgive a person. Still the question is how much does Drew know about James. Drew is changing because of Rick. So there is a chance that Rick will open up Drews eyes about the treatment of other people.

In many ways - I can identify myself with Rick. I rather know someone more than to judge superfically. In some ways - its easy for me to drop out of how group thinks. I think I tend to check up on people thats not having fun at a party for example. Try making a friend. I like to know sort of who is a friend or a foe. So does Rick. Its been two weeks and Rick still hasn't made a friend thats outside the group. It sounds unfair for a group to decide who your friends should be. If this is one of many steps that Rick is trying to make friends and letting Drew know that he's not being unfaithful then at least its a start of a healthy relationship as mates. Gosh it seems unfair that if Drew is jealous of every guy Rick meets. Like what if they were all straight - Drew would be constantly jealous over nothing. On the other hand, Rick will learn which people are homophobic and who are not. That maybe a deciding factor of a friend or foe for Rick to learn. Already he's learning to get over his reactions to gay people.

I do hope in the end that people learn what a great guy Rick is rather than think in the mindset of a gang.

Congrats! Well deserved!! I started reading the story a couple of chapters ago and I'm eagerly waiting to see how Rick is going to get himself out of the corner he's painted himself into and if Drew's friends will call him on it.

Well a big Congrats to you too for winning the GA Readers' Choice award, especially not one that a certain goat was lobbying for you to acquire :P .

So just read Chapter 13 of The Price of Friendship.

I know I haven't commented on the story in a little while, so I have a lot of pent up questions, guesses, etc  , so look out.

Spoilers below!!!!

Rick has me totally and utterly confused now, if that was your objective Graeme, you have succeeded :worship: .

It seems like with every chapter lately, Rick is getting further and further away from revealing the truth to Drew and others and seems to be more 'oh well' attitude. This later chapter really brought it to attention with Keith showing his interest in Claire, and Rick being jealous of it, but then he seems to realize he is in a hole that he has dug himself, so why not enjoy said hole 'cause Claire won't wait around forever.

Then their was the whole hugging thing with Drew after school. After he realized others were watching, he finally was...Who Cares?

Next, on Rick's bed, him half naked and pants just about off, he cringes initially to the feel of Drew's skin, but seems to grow comfortable with it until he doesn't really notice it.

Then, the last big thing is Rick cruising for pics of gay sex, and he says he is only aroused when thinking of doing things with a girl. HUH? Then furthermore, he begins to wonder what gay sex acts he'd be willing to do with Drew and what was absolutely a no go.

It all has me wondering if Rick may be a bit Bi, and maybe is in such a case of denial that he doesn't realize how Drew actually makes him feel. On the other hand, he does seem to mentally justify that he is 100% straight and that seems to take away from the possibility of it being different.

Well enough rambling...I do have to say though that I think Rick is in for some deep crap once Dad reveals to Mom what kind of sites he was cruising, and she reveals that Rick and Drew were behind closed doors just before and Rick appeared red faced after :P . Now talk about assumptions...closed door between two teenage boys, flushed teenage boy, teenage boy caught surfing gay sex sites  .

Loving the story Graeme, keep it coming and thanks.

Hummm, I was waiting for response to this chapter, Rick has definitely dug himself into a deeper hole here. Claire is his affections while Drew is his problem, coupled by his jealously of another seeking his 'unknown' affections towards Claire. Rick has succeeded in making a 'bigger mess' of the entire situation for them all. Now he is involved in setting up Angus with James, meanwhile setting up Clair with Keith. Rick has made a big mess even worse and now that Dad has seen the afterthought down loading of the PC, where the hell is Rick going to go??

If you're wondering where the story is going, one option I've considered is to have them all go for a vacation in Toowoomba. Drew and Rick have a hotel room to themselves. They have just taken off their clothes, and Rick is preparing for his first time... and then link the story to CJ's Let The Music Play story with a common event 0:)

But I don't think I'll do that. It was just one of the options I was considering. :D

Thanks for the comments, guys! :)

ACK! Now, now, Echidna! I notice you waited until I was leaving on my trip to post that possibility... How could you do that to Rick and Drew!?!?!?

On the other hand... they say the earth is supposed to move if it's good, right? 0:)

I wish that were so! Graeme can be so mean to his characters at times... Lest we not forget the chapter (5) that ended thusly:

I loved the icewater attack in 15, and in 16, Sharon's way of dealing with Wayne was just.. a classic! I loved it!

Thanks, CJ! That was an example of something happening in the story that was unplanned. Sharon just stepped up and I found myself writing something I hadn't anticipated. :D

Oh, I probably shouldn't mention this.. but hang on to your hats, folks: There are rumors that chapter 35 has a helacious cliffhanger in it!

Yeah, but chapter 35 of which story? :P Since I've announced already (in other forums) that this story will be concluding with chapter 19, it obviously won't be chapter 35 of The Price of Friendship :D

I love it when a character just "steps out" like that. :) Non writers might find this hard to fathom, but characters do indeed take on a life of their own, and sometimes surprise the author.

And rats, I didn't know you'd announced that. :P

Me thinks the goat is getting a plug in for CLiff :P

Ahhem! I was worried someone might imply that, so I made sure to pick a number that, were it a chapter of Changing Lanes, was already posted, so that can't be it! :P

Actually, I have to admit, the rumors about the cliffhanger in chapter 35 of TPOF might possibly have come from me. 0:)

What?? Don't blame me, blame Graeme!! He's the one who suggested the, er, "Toowoomba option"!!

Rick, hrmmm.. Poor guy, he needs to learn the first rule of holes: When in a hole, stop digging!
