JamesSavik Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Civilization has fallen and it can't get up... Write a short story, novella or novel in the post-apocalyptic genre. No zombies allowed- that crap has been done to death. You may or may not tell us what happened to the world. What will the end look like? Show us your nightmares. Hosting and time limits TBA given interest in the project. "Damn. So much for a weekend in the city..."
Linxe Termoil Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 interesting. Minimum word length? Max word length? Anything else not allowed besides Zombies? Does the setting have to remain on earth or does it just have to be post-apocalyptic? Interested. LT
Rilbur Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 No zombies? But... skeletons are just so passe in comparison! I'll have to think about this; I have a story that could be 'post apocalyptic', but... it's not time to write it yet!
Nephylim Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I'm game. Give me the rules so I can break them
JamesSavik Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Good drama comes from extreme events and what could be more extreme than something that breaks or shatters that thin veneer that we call "civilization"? What is released when that is destroyed? What happens in the twilight of our world? Is it the birth agony of a new world or the death rattle of the old?
Phantom Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 This sounds cool... I'm game! Though for mood music, i'll prolly be listening to this : Cyberage Radio If you stream it, you'll see why it seems fitting to me
W_L Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hmm, I'll finish my novella first, but I'll join for a short story. For mood music, I would go with "Unopened letter to the world" by the Ataris. Here's my tagline: "Through defeat we learn, Through death we enjoy life, Through destruction we rebuild, but Through it all we are human"
Kanaye Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hmm, I'll have to think on this one. Im currently trying to get through my story for the next antholgy. Have exactly 1,053 words so far. Wish me luck.
Prince Duchess Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Oh, Im getting ideas Give me details James please!!! I'll definitley participate
David McLeod Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 James, thanks for the inspiration. The first such book I read was "Earth Abides." It was not in print, then, and may not be readily available, but if you can get it through interlibrary loan, it's definately worth reading.
Rilbur Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 If Earth Abides isn't available, something is wrong. It's a good book, well worth reading.

Toast Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I like to be teased, almost endlessly, but do I have to wait for the world to end to get you to put out. Details of course. I know you are a gentleman, James. But really release your Challenger.
Prince Duchess Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Ok so I have an amazing story idea but its more during the apocolypse to post apocolypse genre. is that ok? ._.
Skylights Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 This sounds very interesting. Forgive me for sounding ignorant but does it have to contain some form of a gay theme? I'm new :s

I might actually share for the first time, I just don't want to post a ridiculously small story, we all have different ideas of short stories. Oh, and any idea of a timeline yet? Thanks Cia
