"Johnny Rocket's Excellent Customer Service"

"Night Fever" Johnny Rockets Dance

There used to be Johnny Rockets at the mall close to me. Man, that was fun. And since we're in confession time, I had a short-lived job with Coldstone Creamery. If we got tipped while making people's ice cream orders, we were supposed to get up and sing and dance. It was the most fun part of that. Thank god cell phone cameras weren't that widespread just yet.

-When Jordan hands Brad a box full of mementos of Kevin.

-When the gang arrives at the country club, and Brad gives Gathan tips on how to pass muster.

"Moon River" piano instrumental

Whenever I've been inside a fancy resturant, they always have some guy playing standards on the piano. Maybe some 60's and 70's pop tunes as well.

"Everybody Knows" by Concrete Blonde

I think scientists should study the musical portion of your brain! How do you come up with all of these? I don't comment much on your music recs, but I do appreciate them a bunch. I especially like the mid 80's flashbacks. Takes me right back to highschool as I graduated in 87. "Our House" was one of those that you just couldn't help but sing along with in the car, and was usually playing at whatever party or dance we went to. :2thumbs:

Thanks, Ivy. I'm not musical myself- I can't sing and I can't play an instrument, but I do really love music, and a wide variety at that. I use a lot of Wikipedia and billboard charts to come up with song choices, as well as looking at movie soundtracks.

Chapter 56

-When Robbie works through his sense of guilt about leaving his cousin's children in the dust, and then he and Brad make love.

"17 Again" by Eurythmics

-When Gathan discusses his college choices with Robbie and Brad.

"Be True To Your School" by the Beach Boys

Chapter 57

-When Brad and Robbie decide to replace the bad f**k vibes of Claremont High's locker room.

"Hot-Blooded" by Foreigner

One of the things I really like about this story is that since it's less about 2000 and more about the two men coming to terms with their adolescence and their present selves, so I've felt carte blanche to branch out from limiting the songs to 1998-2000 like I usually do. Hot-Blooded is a great song.

-When Brad and Will talk while surfing.

"A Love Without End, Amen" by George Strait

Well, Blue, I hope you're happy.;-)

Nah, but seriously, I think this song nails the emotion of that scene. I just ran into it- I'd never heard of it before. That's what I love about doing these recs- I run into great songs I otherwise would have never heard.

Chapter 59

-When Robbie proposes to Brad in Claremont Park.

"All My Life" by K-Ci and Jo-Jo

The quintessential late '90s love song...

-When the guys pick up Wally's kids for the wedding, and the couple express hopes that California won't corrupt them.

"Californication" by Red Hot Chili Peppers

At a group I post at. someone wrote a sermon based around this song. It was quite hilarious, because Mark got REALLY pissed off. LOL.

Er, I always found the chorus to that song to be a bit cutsie. But yes, I am happy, thank you.

Wait, what? Link?

Unfortunately that post doesn't exist anymore. The group owner, who I will call Aaron Dallas, has a thing for freakiing out and deleting his groups. Then he re-starts another. It was pretty epic, though. Mark absolutely blew his top.

See why I helped out. You're all out of material. biggrin.gif

Well, gee Mark, when you set not just one, not just two, but THREE stories that take place in 1999/2000, it's really hard not to run out of material. Especially since this story has run sixty-something chapters.

Can the next story skip to at least 2001 so I have more material to work with?:2thumbs: I'm itching to start using Linkin Park, Good Charlotte, and New Found Glory.

I'm actually most excited about hitting 2003-2004 at some point. That was a pretty good year for music. I was in 11th grade, so I knew a lot of the songs at this point. I'm thinking JJ and Will are throwing a senior year rager to this tune...

This song's eight years old and it still makes me wanna get up and dance.

"When I Grow Up to Be A Man" by the Beach Boys

-When Darius talks about his developing relationship with Ella.

"Absolutely" (Story of a Girl) by 9 Days

-When the gang confronts creepy Fred Hayes.

"Wait and Bleed" by Slipknot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u_IIS5dUeU

"Take My Picture" by Filter was orginally in that place, but I thought about it, and figured the 9 Days song fit the mood better- talking about this pretty girl with a tough life yet can still manage to give a beautiful smile. That's basically how I picture Ella.

-When Brad talks to Will, who's getting over his teen angst over being dumped.

"Dammit" by Blink 182

I imagine Will listened to a lot of Blink 182. Those guys were so good with teen angst.

-When the brothers tease Darius over falling in love.

"There She Goes" by The La's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyYEBDpQjjk&feature=related

I probably should have used the '00 version by Sixpence None the Richer, but this is a better version. And JJ and Will would know the La's version because of the Parent Trap.

-When Brad and Robbie have fun making some home DVD's.

"The Stroke" by Billy Squier

"The Stroke". What a great early 80's rock song.
