scotchirish87 Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I've had the urge to write a story based in the world of Hyrule (Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series). My characters would be primarily original and my story line would have the primary tenets of a LoZ game, however what I have planned would be fairly original takes on those tenets. Would this be an acceptable story for GA? It seems to me that fan fiction is a grey area and specifically I haven't been able to find if Nintendo has any position on fan fiction.
Rilbur Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 There are other pieces of fan fiction out there, so I wouldn't say that you can't do fan fiction, but I'd try to check up and see what Nintendo says about it, or if there are any existing Zelda fan fictions out there, first.

This is what I found for Nintendo Copyright policy... Nintendo Copyright I also found this, though I'm not sure about the complete truth behind it, but it is the only thing I could find that even remotely discusses this... Hope it helps Link
Rilbur Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Well, I did a quick search of my own and found lots of ninendo-oriented fan fiction, and not much response from them on the subject. As such, I'd say that whatever their policies, because they aren't enforcing their ownership, you're free to do whatever you want with it. If you want to avoid trouble, just try to avoid doing anything they might find objectionable (like Mario and Toadstool flash, for example) so that they don't try and shut you down. Of course, that leaves up the question of what they consider 'objectionable'... given that they're a 'family friendly' franchise, they probably don't want anything controversial, which would include gay characters. Or sex. Or much of anything interesting.
scotchirish87 Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Yeah it appears pretty safe, especially with how I'm planning on writing the story.
