Chapter 1

-For the intro.

"Poor Man's Son" by Survivor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-8XxUpas-U

Okay, I was expecting something totally different with this song. I thought it was a country ballad. Not bad, though.

-For the 4th of July Claremont festival.

"Smooth" by Santana

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtHjKCBsGjk&feature=related

-When Gathan kicks the shit out of his father.

"More Human Than Human" by White Zombie

-When Gathan and Will talk about his car before going off to the Crampton party.

"Fire It Up" by Busta Rhymes

Well, I was 14 in 2000. It's not like I wasn't listening to music at that point. I'm just hoping we get to 2003 within another two stories, because 2003-2004 holds a lot of my favorite music. 2000 and 2001 had some good music, but meh. And 2002 music, with the exception of maybe Missy Elliot, was the year of Avril Lavigne so blegh. (I actually do like Avril, but god she got annoying.)

It's similiar to how you told me once that you preferred 1985-ish music over 1980-ish music. I'm the same way about 2004 vs. 2000.

But since I'm stuck in 2000 for now, I'm itching to use "Flavor of the Weak", "The Thong Song", "Come on Over", "The Graduation Song", "Little Black Backpack", "Another Dumb Blonde", "You're A God", and "The Way I Am". Prolly "Bye, Bye, Bye" as well. I'm going through tracks on the Marshall Mathers cd and the Linkin Park cd to figure songs that might work as well.

Chapter 2

-When Gathan and Will have exceedingly inappropriate relations with each other. (God, I sound like I'm 50.)

"Come Down" by Bush

-When Gathan admits to his temper problem.

"Everything Zen" by Bush

-At the party, when Will stands up to the cop.

"Ruff Ryders Anthem" by DMX

Right. This generation is enthralled, for the most part, by hip-hop and black culture. Stark contrast to how white-bread Brad's group was. Looking "thug" is in; not looking "prep". There's this movie called "Havoc" with Anne Hathaway about the whole "rich white kids trying to act ghetto" phenon.

And that's about when I told the entire rest of my generation "Alright, you guys have fun. I'll be over here, where we wear clothing that fits."

I don't think it was until about 2004-ish that guys started wearing jeans that somewhat fit again. The O.C. had a hand in bringing back somewhat preppy styles. But for now, it's all about baggy Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, and Fubu.

I remember my friend Mack getting teased for wearing jeans that actually fit once. Everyone kept going on him about how tight they were. They weren't even really tight- they just actually fit him. I think, for the most part, guys who went to high school from about the mid-'90s to the mid '00s were expected to wear baggy jeans that showed off their boxer brand.

Although to make up for that, the guys did wear really hot wifebeaters.

Chapter 3

-When Gathan confronts Zach over the way he treated John and Will. And all of the general teen angst in this chapter.

"Mutt" by Blink 182

http://listen.grooveshark.com/s/Mutt/xWRu9?src=5

-When Gathan gets to New York City.

"Theme from New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra

-When Gathan gets love lessons from the Master.

"I Know What Boys Like" by The Waitresses

Until "Milkshake" comes out, this is the closest to a theme that Stefan has. Well, aside from the Bitch is Back.

And "I'm too sexy."

Posted

"I'm Too Sexy" feels too butch for Stefan, though. Or at least, faux-butch. Stefan's just straight-up femme.

There really is a method to why I pick the songs I pick.

Chapter 4

-When Will stands up to Brad.

The Theme from "Malcolm in the Middle"

Glad I could incorporate Malcolm in the Middle. I used to have a crush on Justin Berfield. I'm apparently not the only one, as TrevorTime mentioned having a crush on him as well.

-When the family convinces Gathan to see the family shrink.

"I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_wssByW7JQ

-When Will mopes about John, and then they contact each other over the internet.

"How Do I Feel?" by Hoku

Hoku. God. You gotta love that cheesy late 90's/early 00's pre-9/11 pop. I wanted to use Hoku for Millenium, but Brad and Robbie seemed a bit old for that.

Great choices Jeremy! The "Malcolm in the Middle" references was spot on, and I love the Ramones.

The Ramones pretty much cut across all generations. Punk's had an enduring value.

Chapter 5

-When Will tries to defuse the tension between Tiffany and Jeanine in the kitchen.

"Smile" by Vitamin C

-When John and Will...reconcile.

"Back Here" by BBMak

BBMak. God, they were cute.

-When Gathan meets Sam's son, Ant, cruises around with him, and has some fun.

"Boyz in Da Hood" by Dynamite Hacks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMlPVpXtkJY

I was going to go with something else, but this made me laugh my ass off. And it makes sense if you have the image of rich white kids trying to act like they're black. Very, very common occurence for that time period. I'm betting Ant blasted mostly hip-hop on that Camaro's sound system.

Chapter 6

-When the plan crashes down, killing everyone onboard.

"If Today Was Your Last Day" by Nickelback

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=Pe-Eosmk6oE

-When Will and John get freaky with Cody.

"Wait" by the Ying-Yang Twins (uncensored remix)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JEWNkb18HY&feature=related

-When JP talks to another sexy professor about how the balance needs to be restored.

"The Scientist" by Coldplay

It was fun doing the music recs for this "spoof" chapter. To go along with Mark, I posted songs that all came out after 2000- "If Today Was Your Last Day" came out in 2008, "Wait" came out in 2005, and "The Scientist" is from 2002.

Basiscally, if you've been following my music selections, I NEVER use a song that did not exist in the year the story takes place. I might use a song that was released in November 2000 for a scene taking place in March 2000, but I won't use any 2001 music until we reach January 2001. (Which better not take fifty chapters, Jeremy says somewhat menacingly to Mark.)

It gets really frustrating sometimes, especially if I come across music I'd love to use for a scene but check it, and find that it came out in 2001 or 2002, but it's an integrity that I've been keeping since Day 1. I remember doing "Be Rad" and there was a ton of 1981 music I wanted to use, but couldn't because Mark kept the guys in 1980 for like thirty-eight chapters or something like that.

Yes, so I've found as I've been trying to come up with suggestions for Trance and other Techno music tracks from that time period. It turns out most of the songs I liked either came out entirely after 2000, or the mixes I know best did. Now, this isn't compeltely the case, but I cannot find my cd's from when I was 16. They're...somewhere in my closet. I'll find them someday.

And I can't trust Itunes, because it lies. Horribly. Case in point, it automixed a playlist called "90's music," 2 songs of which are from one of the cd's I swiped from my parents entitled "Groovey: Greatest Hits of the 1960s." So, yeah, can't really trust that much.

You're getting a taste of my own feeling, Blue. See, for the most part, 2000 is a weird transition year for music, where things were still pretty much in either the boyband mode or the Limp Bizkit mode. Some good stuff is coming out, like Moby, Linkin Park and Eminem, but 2000 was just not that good of a music year. 2001 and 2003 were much, much better music years- I'm dying to use Alicia Keyes, but I can't yet. And I can backfill, but I'm also finding that I'm reusing a lot of tunes that I've already used because Mark fit three stories, two of which were really long, all set in the last two years of the '90s.

Now you get why I begged and pleaded with Mark to at least move the story to January '01. But did he listen to me? Nooo....(I still love you Mark.):D

-When Gathan gets with Zach, and Zach is a crazy mother-effer.

"Make Me Bad" by Korn

-Harry Schluter's general life theme and characteristics that get Gathan to want to help him. Starting by getting him with Ed.

"Pretty Fly For A White Guy" by the Offspring

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzY2Qcu5i2A

I've been wanting to use this song since "Bloodlines", but no one ever really fit this song. Thank god for Harry.

This punk guy did a dance rountine with a beach ball to this song for my 8th grade talent show. It was hilarious.

Chapter 10

-When Will and John make it official.

"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" by the Ramones

I'm glad that the Ramones pretty much transcend generations. And punk had a revival at this time. So I can get away with using the Ramones for a bunch of 14-year olds in 2000. I had a friend who was a major fan.

-When Will talks it out with his mother, and comes to some sort of peace and understanding.

"Porcelain" by Moby

I am so freakin' glad I can use Moby now. God, he was at the top of game in 2000.

-When Gathan hooks up with Kristin Hendrickson at a party, the girl every guy at Claremont sweats.

"Thong Song" by Sisqo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S87ww-QNPkg

I've been waiting to use that one, but I couldn't use it until Gathan got with a girl. Let's just assume Kristin was wearing the whale tail look ala Britney Spears. By 2001, that look had filtered down to 9th grade girls, so I'm betting the older ones were wearing thongs to high school a little earlier.
