I used to have a link for this story saved, but I dunno if I've misplaced it, so here's hoping someone else has it handy.

Of course I don't remember the author or title, but one of the main characters is an Italian man with a big family (they run a landscaping business). His wife just died, leaving him with his young son (died during birth, I believe). He meets a guy new to the town who just broke up with his long-time partner and wants a fence in his backyard. he has a very charming female best friend. they start hanging out bowling, of all things, form a friendship, and so on. There's the eventual coming-out process, which I think the author handled very well, resulting in some of the family coming around and some not. One of Italian-guy's nephews turns out to be gay and attempts suicide, and towards the end Italian-guy battles his in-laws for custody of the baby (which they didn't want anyway). If I remember correctly, they all move in together and it's a happy ever after ending.

Anyone know this one?

It rings a bell, but not totally. I've read a few with landscapers on Nifty. I had a look on the search engine, and the best I could come up with was Tim Mead's Joe Series, but I don't think that's it.

If you can remember any other searchwords or phrases that might be specific enough, you would maybe find it. 'new fence' found about 365 I think, 'landscapers' about 50. Can you remember any other details? There is another story in my head, but I'm sure it is parents dying, not a wife.

Your welcome. By the way, I found that in Twisted's happy ending rec list so maybe that is why you don't have a copy of the link.

Really? Geez, I'm blind. That was the first place I looked! ^_^

OK Dark! You made me look at a story on Nifty that fulfils three of the main criteria. ... Well written, no intergenerational sex, and finished. So I pretty much had to read it.And it's pretty damned good too. I cant understand how I've never seen it before, but WTH. I'll add it to my collection, now. Thanks
