ricky Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm all a twitter. It's close to a posting! . . . Well I'm hoping anyways. It's Monday here anyways. So there's hope. Right? I mean he was working on it two days ago so that's a really good sign.
Mark Arbour Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 I just finished Chapter 36. It will be in editing for a bit still. 1

JimCarter Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I just finished Chapter 36. It will be in editing for a bit still. Are we there yet? JK just had to show my support
centexhairysub Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Patience is a virtue but who the hell ever said I was virtuous.
sandrewn Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 You have not commented on it, will Mr. Humphreys have to eventually stand a court martial for the loss of his brig? If so, what are the possible outcomes? Can all of this wait till they get home? Can he actually take his new Irish Masters Mate back to England? The good doctor almost had his neck stretched for far less. Mark, could you explain to me the difference in commenting here versus posting to a chapter. I think I understand the intent, however often many of remarks seen here would make more sense as a chapter review (better for you). I unlike the rest will patiently await your next chapter (yeah right).

The good doctor almost had his neck stretched for far less. Humphreys will probably have to stand a court martial for the loss of the brig. Unless he was negligent, which he wasn't, it should not be a big deal. A court martial requires a group of post captains, and there's only one post captain there now (Granger), so it will wait until they are around a sufficient number (probably 5). That means that Humphreys probably won't stand trial until he gets to England, unless he ends up in Madras first. Or Antigua. Mark, could you explain to me the difference in commenting here versus posting to a chapter. I think I understand the intent, however often many of remarks seen here would make more sense as a chapter review (better for you). I unlike the rest will patiently await your next chapter (yeah right). Here's how I view the difference between reviews and forums. In a review, you're having a conversation with me (pretty much). When you post in the forums, you're having a conversation with other readers. And me.
Kookie Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 It should also be noticed that a reader is limited to one review of a given chapter, thus limiting dialog. Whereas the forums are conducive to an open dicussion between all parties.
JimCarter Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I just finished Chapter 36. It will be in editing for a bit still. Such a tease. I would get on my knees and beg, but some might think I had something else in mind. 1
ricky Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Well now that Paternity is over maybe we'll get some of that focused writing he was talking about. And I'm hoping that since he has been out of country for a bit he's doing research. And Jimmy, . . If that works . . . well just let me know if your knees get tired. I've got a pair of knee pads laying around someplace from the last time I had to ask for a raise. I'm sure they're still in serviceable condition. If you'll pardon the pun.
ricky Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 A fantastic Chapter Lord Arbour. I think the next part of this will include a parley flag by the Spaniards in an attempt to stall Granger from leaving until their Ship of the line shows up to take care of their problem for them. Perhaps dinner with the Spaniards will either reveal nothing about the ship of the line being sunk or perhaps he will deliver that little tidbit himself. I'm sure Calvert will also prosper. I wonder what he will get besides the naval candy they desire.
Daddydavek Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Thanks for the latest Granger fix. Somehow, I suspect that Calvert's mission will not be all that easy. George's plan to keep the large ship boxed in also may prove less than tedious.
centexhairysub Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Glad to see that Granger is back in the game. The way he handled himself when returning the young Spanish Lt is why those that befriend him and those that by the unfortunate guise of war have to few him as an advesary both view him as an true officer and a gentleman. I am sure that Spanish colonel will have nothing but nice things to report back to Spain no matter what the Spanish govenor tries to say. Well, it looks as if Granger and the others will capture a treasure ship. Even if it is not one of the big gold ships, a ship that size with silver will make those involved more wealthy then most can even comprehend. If Granger can take the ship, then his place will be secure no matter what anyone does. That kind of wealth will basically make him untouchable even more than he is now; an increase in peerage would not even be out of play for something like that. Listening to Calvert babble, just can't like the man, it amazes me how two people with such different views of life and love can tie themselves together and do so much to hold onto one another. If a true man like Travers could not hold and keep Granger, you will never convince me a pale imitation of one like Calvert will be able to in the end...
Kookie Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Interesting chapter, I do believe Calvert's soul searching has presented a quandry. In deciding his devoted solely to Granger too many problems result. Either Calvert or Granger will not survive much longer. Of course, I do not believe our hero will die, that means Calvert will. While I look forward to the capture of the Sapnish Galleon, I have to wonder what changes that would occur because of that. First, Mark stated that essentially the sinking of the San Augustin was a blessing because Granger would be hard pressed the crew the battleship. Would not the same senario be presented by the Galleon. While not a fighting ship I am sure staffing the Galleon would require a large number of men and officers. Second, what would Granger do with the Galleon. Send it back to Antigua would mean the Santa Clarita would have to go as escort. Keeping it with him would slow their trip across the Pacific. Third who would command it? Robey does not have the skills (his navigation sucks), Humphries really can not be considered until cleared of any wrong doing in losing his brig. Weston does not have the experience and the rest are all midshipmans (although acting Luetenants).
JimCarter Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Damn it Mark, please tell us when you expect to give us our Granger fix. I know I'm one impatient SOB, but what can I say. That is just me wanting another installment of my favorite story. 2
naaz Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Once upon a time, we would get 2 chapters a week. Ah. seems like those days are gone.
Kookie Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 In breaking news..... The US Navy and the governments of Chile and Peru have stated they are recieving a number requests for an immeadiate Search and Rescue Mission along the western coast of Suth America to locate His Majesty’s frigate Bacchante and to insure Captain Viscount Granger and crew is save. In addition, the Admiralty in Great Britian has noted a sharp increase in request for information about the missing ship. No official word of the status of these requests has been forthcoming as of this time. We will keep you posted. Elsewhere, medical personnel are worried over the increasing number of cases of insomnia. The affected individuals are waking numerous times during the night and logging on to their computers attempting to locate the latest chapter of Odyssey. Some severe cases have noted where individuals have rigged their beds to mimic the affect wave action would have on late 18th century sailing ships. Others have rigged up atomizers and fans to spray salt water over them. In addition many employers are noting a decrease in productivity as more and more workers seek information about Odyssey. Whether these events are related and when or if a solution can be remains a mystery, this correspondent and thousands across the globe can only wonder if HMS Bacchante is truly safe. 1
Mark Arbour Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 Alright, alright. I've been busy. And I'll probably stay busy. But I do have a chapter done. I'm not sure if I should post it now, or wait and post it with it's companion chapter.

This is Lord Arbour speak for, this chapter is really gonna piss off a lot of people if they have to wait for resolution. I say, post it now and let the begging begin.
Kookie Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Mark, While I personally would prefer for it to be posted ASAP, you have to decide which would affect the continuity of the story more.
