Re Part 1:  Now the spider can knit blankets or skull caps for its young.  Maybe even little booties.  

 

Re Part 2:  I'll stick with the garden gnomes and pink flamingos over the house of spiders.  I'm sure her neighbors are all taking their kids for psychotherapy.

Nope - six legs, it's a beetle. Lots of black beetles around. Try picture googling Carabidae.
