Hi folks, My name is Trevor Johnson and my first full length gay novel is due to be released on Amazon on February 24. Can anyone give me any tips or advice on how to promote this book to the world?

The title is 'DAVEY' the story of a young orphaned gay kid in the 1990's and the terrible happenings at first and the road to goodness and glory. I tried to cover many topics which were relevant to the gay community at that time,including aids, gay cure farms, corrupt police and many other touchy subjects.

Promoting a book like this with limited funds is a daunting task and help would be appreciated. Please note it is available for pre-order on Kindle.DAVEY SYNOPSIS REVISED.doc

I've not been involved in self-publishing, but I would suggest somewhere like goodreads.com would be an appropriate place to start. Check their terms and conditions first, but I believe they allow promoting and marketing.

Unfortunately, you're far, far behind when it comes to self-promotion. These are things you can do to help promote yourself first, and your ebook second.

 

1) Create a social media presence 6 months to a year ago, like a blog, facebook, twitter, tumblr. Create a "brand" for yourself to coordinate, like a header or user graphic that can be used on all the sites. Connect with other groups and authors who might help you promote.

2) Create an Amazon Author page.

3) Join Goodreads. Add your book.

4) Join Goodreads groups that tie into your book content (such as MM Romance Group).

5) Add your book to Listopia lists that apply

6) Join yahoo author/reader groups that tie into your book content that allow self-promotion.

7) Consider running promotional events like a blog tour, a contest on Goodreads, etc...

8) Request reviews of your book by review sites that have reviewed similar content at least 2 months before book release. You will need, at a minimum, a pdf version of your book, but it's best to also have an epub and mobi format.
