Warning: illustrated ranting:

Next time Joel has to pick up Lucas things from dry cleaning, maybe he could place a nice t-shirt instead of the dress shirt:

MY-PARENTS-SAID-I-COULD-BE-ANYTHING-SO-I

Especially considering the stunt daddy dearest pulled at the dinner.

(I know, I know, Joel is not the type for this kind of revenge, but I would totally do it  )

And when they make up and Lucas pulls his head out of his behind, he could wear this:

8143T-IM-NOT-TRYING-TO-BE-AN-ASSHOLE-IT-

or this, when he does not behave again:

P.S: I found a few really nice prank lawyer t-shirts, but I sense a conflict of interest here because of the author's civil profession :-P

Uh oh, you looked "suspicious" did you :P

its ok I was like 3 steps away from being arrested at an airport once foe yelling at a TSA agent.

Been there too... At LAX. Started an argument after being sent across the airport twice without getting to go through customs. And I never lose my temper like that...

And yes, I look very suspicious. A tiny blonde...

it's just so hard to believe Lucas would genuinely suspect Joel of molesting a teen.  :(

Lucas acted out of jealousy, desperation or confusion, but missed the mark completely. However, molestation isn't on his mind. He wouldn't think so low of Joel.

I'm glad your reply to my review said Lucas was in fact not thinking of molestation at all. Of course Joel got that impression, so we can be forgiven for thinking the same. ;)

I'm not sure if Joel thought molestation either. To me, that word implies some sort of force used. I'm thinking Lucas only went so far as cheating, but all voluntary. From both parties. Then of course you can have a debate whether a 16yo can agree to sexual relations. In Sweden, the age limit is 15. So it would be unusual but legal for Joel and Mason to have an affair in Sweden.

Lucas the lawyer immediately realised the legal quagmire they could face with an underage boy spending time away from home. he knows well to well what Joel needs in bed to assume he could get it from a 16y old. on top he feels guilty of neglecting the Swede and at the same hurt he is being replaced to a certain - platonic- extent by a boy.

no pitchforks here. other implements though are awaiting J for some attitude adjustment training.

let the court case be over and then we shall see where this goes.

by the way Puppilull DOES blush.

It wouldn't in Denmark, because Joel is Mason's coach which is like a teacher. You cannot have sexual relations with someone you teach because you're in a position of authority. I think it may be illegal even if they're 18 but I'm not sure.

Hmm... The laws are the same in Sweden, but I didn't see Mason as being in a position of dependence on Joel. He's a coach, but holds no power over whether Mason gets to play or not.

Shhh! I thought that was our secret! No need for everyone to know I turn into a flustered mess on occasion...

And I like your analysis of Lucas very much. I think you're on to something...

This is the definition of the age of consent in Canada:

The age of consent for sexual activity is 16 years. It was raised from 14 years on May 1, 2008 by the Tackling Violent Crime Act.

However, the age of consent is 18 years where the sexual activity "exploits" the young person -- when it involves prostitution, pornography or occurs in a relationship of authority, trust or dependency (e.g., with a teacher, coach or babysitter). Sexual activity can also be considered exploitative based on the nature and circumstances of the relationship, e.g., the young person's age, the age difference between the young person and their partner, how the relationship developed (quickly, secretly, or over the Internet) and how the partner may have controlled or influenced the young person.

I believe that the US has similar laws in this regard.

IF Joel did do something inappropriate, and it was ever pursued in the courts it would be argued (likely successfully) that Mason couldn't be expected to know that Joel has no influence on that team (his playing time etc).  Joel is his assistant coach, and given that power by his regular coach who leaves Joel alone with the boys often.  That would be a position of authority over the boy, and what I was basing my opinion on.  Heck, the coach even had worries..  For Lucas to make that accusation... as a New Yorker, a lawyer (who might have heard something about cases of players accusing coaches of sexual assualt) and someone who is supposed to love Joel?  Not good

EDIT:  It had nothing to do with whether or not Mason might want Joel (which I don't see) and more that the abuse of power would make it sexual assault regardless if Mason agreed or not.  (Not that I could ever see Joel even thinking about going there)

Spikey quoted this before, but I wanted to expand it to include what Joel said too:

“What the hell are you saying!?” He couldn’t help but shout. “He’s a lonely, shy kid who’s scared he’ll have to leave all his friends and his team behind to move all across the country with some guy he barely knows!”

Well, what do you expect me to think? I come home to find some lost boy sleeping in my office!” Lucas shouted back at him, while waving with his hand towards the office. “And find out he’s been hanging out with you, all alone at night!

Sounds like "I think you're screwing a 16 year old" to me.  Combine that with Joel being a cop with a strong sense of duty and honor and the fact that Lucas is supposed to love him and know him by now, I can't blame Joel for losing his shit.  The readers sure did ;)

LOL Suddenly, the finer details of law snuck in here anyway. Since we all know Joel is not after Mason like that, I think we can just agree it would be bad if he did. Possibly even illegal.

Passive aggressive I can agree to. Maybe that means he is one... Still a difficult concept for me to grasp.

I had the same thought/concern, Tim.  Why would Lucas make that offer?  It's far more important for he and Joel to get their closeness back than for Lucas to make Joel like Pierce.  Pierce can go fly up a flagpole for all I care about him.  Lucas would have been better to either take Joel out for an intimate dinner, or if dancing was that important to him..., go themselves.  Now Joel not only has to deal with Pierce, but Lucas's continued divided attention... again.  Ok rant over...
