Two boys, one of them a prince, fall in love at a boarding school in Sweden. Yes, it's funny both of those shows were suddenly in my Netflix recommendations at the same time. Which is odd that it too Young Royals so long to show up in there considering it's been available on Netflix for longer. I watched Hearstoppers first, of course you know fell in love with it. But then this last week decided to check Young Royals out. I did enjoy it, and their relationship felt pretty authentic also, and of course those boys are just as adorable. I will say I prefer Heartstoppers, Spoiler just because the boys in that show fully embraced their relationship, were together for most of the show and didn't do the drama breakup at the end of the season. Though it did come close with that haha. On the plus side, Young Royals has another season coming out, and hopefully it won't take too long till we get more of that one. And then we just need to pray to all the gods that Netflix will do more of Hearstopper since there's so much more of that story to tell. 2 3

I'm the same way, I will always says bisexual, even though I haven't actually been with a lady in so long it probably doesn't matter. Nick's journey reminded me a lot of my own as a teenager. I didn't figure it out till I was 17. My experience was a mix of Charley's "it's always been boys" and Nick's liking girls too. I assumed I was straight for the longest time because I liked girls, but could never figure out why I was so attracted to guys at the same time. 7

Little Mickey's all grown up. 3 minutes ago, Albert1434 said: I think its very refeshing to be so open about your sexualy and I thank you for sharing Thanks Bertie. That's the best part about this community, I feel comfortable talking about myself and sharing my experiences. This is a safe place to be myself. One more comment on Heartstopper, and possible spoilers I guess, in the webcomic, the arcs following where this first season ended, Nick's bisexuality wasn't used as a device for cheap drama. He didn't cheat on his boyfriend with a lady after getting drunk at a party, or suddenly start wavering in his feelings because a pretty girl batted her eyes. Bisexuality was just treated like what it is instead of a source of force conflict. 6

Some of that drives me crazy, just like the mandatory miserable ending to so many of our stories. I was reading up on the history of gay stories, gay pulp fiction, and almost threw something at the computer when I read that the “drama”, the completely unnatural tragedy in all those stories was written that way to get published. Gay stories could only get published if they showed just how terrible LGBTIQA lives “really” were. need to do some more research on that but it made me sick reading it 6

Gay stories could only get published if they showed just how terrible LGBTIQA lives “really” were. need to do some more research on that but it made me sick reading it It's still an issue in gay fiction I think. Not for the same homophobic reasons as yesteryear, but maybe just from either a lot of stories being set in the past or, the crazy party lifestyle that is the stereotype of the gay culture. There's a plethora of stories here on GA with couples in stable relationships, happy endings etc. But not nearly as much in the mainstream. I crave the kind of stuff I can read on here being portrayed in visual media. There's some good ones I've found over the last few years, but so many still end with people breaking up or, being on drugs, or committing suicide, or something along those lines. Hence why Heartstopper was something that was a massive breath of fresh air for how it treated being queer. It still touches on the realities of being "different" and there's still conflicts that arise, but at the end of the day they are happy being who they are. It was almost something that could have been written by several of the authors here on GA. 6

Couldn't tell you how many YA gay romance stories I've dropped because of cheating, or a tragic ending. Yes, cheating does happen, and yes, life is painful, but why do those have to be the only possible outcomes? One of my favorite books is The Music of What Happens, by Bill Konigsburg. The ending isn't tragic, but neither is it HEA. It's more of a "Happy for Now" ending. 3 3

Max is the greatest thing that ever happened to me. Between Morgan and I, he's also taken a real shine to cooking. He even ordered escargot when we went out to brunch at this French place in town! I wasn't so thrilled about that, but of course I'm happy that he's willing to be adventurous. 1 1 5

The last time I got remotely adventurous was on a cruise ship over 10 years ago. They had plenty of that kind of stuff you don't get on the menu at TGI Fridays or whatever hahaha. I had the quail (which I remember loving) and frog legs (which were also very good). I couldn't quite get to eating escargot. So kudos to your boy for being willing to do that. Pretty much every kid I know would never try that. 6 1

I, however, decided to play safe and stick with the Croque Monsieur I'd ordered. 4 1 1

I just realized with how inactive I've been on the site the last couple of years and missing a lot about it. I've never left, but I became a lurker again. Anyway, I was scrolling back through the posts from the last week and was pleasantly surprised to see @Drew Espinosa posting here on the regular again. Hey, spikey! We all missed @Drew Espinosa too... those glitter bombs not so much. 6
