Some of that drives me crazy, just like the mandatory miserable ending to so many of our stories. I was reading up on the history of gay stories, gay pulp fiction, and almost threw something at the computer when I read that the “drama”, the completely unnatural tragedy in all those stories was written that way to get published. Gay stories could only get published if they showed just how terrible LGBTIQA lives “really” were. need to do some more research on that but it made me sick reading it it has always bothered me too. It was always that gay men were hustlers, drug addicts, pedophiles, murderers, predators, extremely effeminate and bitchy(I like effeminate and bitchy , but they were usually twisted in some way) and gay men always died. None of them could figure out how to be happy. No wonder it took me so long to come to terms with who I was. 7

Not for the same homophobic reasons as yesteryear, but maybe just from either a lot of stories being set in the past or, the crazy party lifestyle that is the stereotype of the gay culture. There's a plethora of stories here on GA with couples in stable relationships, happy endings etc. But not nearly as much in the mainstream. I crave the kind of stuff I can read on here being portrayed in visual media. There's some good ones I've found over the last few years, but so many still end with people breaking up or, being on drugs, or committing suicide, or something along those lines. Hence why Heartstopper was something that was a massive breath of fresh air for how it treated being queer. It still touches on the realities of being "different" and there's still conflicts that arise, but at the end of the day they are happy being who they are. It was almost something that could have been written by several of the authors here on GA. "Love, Simon" too. Yeah, so many suicides in mainstream gay writing, and "Brokeback Mountain" paints an equally tragic picture. 6

It's funny with how far we have come , it can still go back to the tragic gay guys who are miserable. At least the gay cowboys in your story had a proper ending Gary. Love, Simon was great. Heatstopper is right up there with that. I can't stop talking about it lol 5 minutes ago, Headstall said: And grandkids. The best thing ever! Those are alway more fun I'm told, cause at the end of the day you get to be the fun one with them. 5 minutes ago, Page Scrawler said: I've heard that they can become rubbery if overcooked, which is easy to do. I just realized with how inactive I've been on the site the last couple of years and missing a lot about it. I've never left, but I became a lurker again. Anyway, I was scrolling back through the posts from the last week and was pleasantly surprised to see @Drew Espinosa posting here on the regular again. Spikey! 6
