I was reading up on the history of gay stories, gay pulp fiction, and almost threw something at the computer when I read that the “drama”, the completely unnatural tragedy in all those stories was written that way to get published. it has always bothered me too. It was always that gay men were hustlers, drug addicts, pedophiles, murderers, predators, extremely effeminate and bitchy(I like effeminate and bitchy , but they were usually twisted in some way) and gay men always died. None of them could figure out how to be happy. No wonder it took me so long to come to terms with who I was.

I crave the kind of stuff I can read on here being portrayed in visual media.  There's some good ones I've found over the last few years, but so many still end with people breaking up or, being on drugs, or committing suicide, or something along those lines.  

Hence why Heartstopper was something that was a massive breath of fresh air for how it treated being queer.  It still touches on the realities of being "different" and there's still conflicts that arise, but at the end of the day they are happy being who they are.  

It was almost something that could have been written by several of the authors here on GA.  

"Love, Simon" too. Yeah, so many suicides in mainstream gay writing, and "Brokeback Mountain" paints an equally tragic picture.

It's funny with how far we have come , it can still go back to the tragic gay guys who are miserable. At least the gay cowboys in your story had a proper ending Gary.   Love, Simon was great.  Heatstopper is right up there with that.  I can't stop talking about it lol

Yeah apparently we both missed it until very recently.  At least I caught Heartstopper the day it was released haha.  I'll be keeping an eye out for the next season of Young Royals though.
