Popular Post Page Scrawler Posted April 26, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 26, 2023 @Drew Espinosa I have a story pitch I think you might like. It's loosely inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender, but with more of a Thai/Vietnamese influence. 23-year-old Lamon is fresh from the police academy in the Floating City of the Dragon. His first assigned post: to return to the neighborhood he knew as a child. Seeking out familiar faces, Lamon goes to a well-loved noodle shop in the old neighborhood. Inside, he finds his childhood friend, Boon-Nam, who has assumed ownership of the restaurant following his grandmother's passing. Some thugs are causing problems, and so, as an officer of the law, Lamon is forced to act. Lamon's timely appearance rekindles old feelings Boon-Nam thought he had buried since he was a teen; feelings that Lamon might actually reciprocate. But Lamon's intervention sends ripples through the city's criminal underworld, ripples big enough to swell into a typhoon that could plunge the city into anarchy. 6

I don't know, Ayan has pretty good counters against anyone threatening him physically. Vegas better watch out, Ayan might just seduce him, and he'll be letting him go before he even realizes it. 6

They were more prominent in the past, but have mostly hidden themselves away as technology and industrial-scale magic became commonplace. Also, as far as this story is concerned, there's only "one world". No reincarnation, no alternate dimensions, etc, so it isn't an "isekai" story. 5

Well it didn't sound like a 1-for-1 of any of those genres, I just meant that I like the eastern inspiration, something somewhat in the same vein as similar stories that I've read. The industrial-scale magic idea sounds really interesting. There's been a few "sci fi" cultivation books I see getting indy releases the past few years. Some writers trying to pair cultivation with cyber punk of all things. So you get that Blade Runner/Ghost in the Shell setting, and yet people meditating and expanding their cores to greater as they journey towards the heavens. Pretty strange actually. 5 1
