Recommended Posts

PRIDE & PREMIUM

The stories are starting! That's right, we're getting you started on the Pride ride before June begins! Our Coming Out themed event starts with a great short story by GA author @Drew Payne! This two chapter short story just for our Premium subscribers, so if you haven't signed up for your membership yet, what are you waiting for? You can also discuss here, if you want to talk about the story beyond the story comments and reviews.

The Passenger on Platform Six

Length: 8,190

Description: The journey of a lifetime starts with one train ticket.

Owen, nineteen and single, is finally making his journey to coming out, but this is far more difficult and complicated than the train journey he has to take from his small home town to London, the only place where he feels he can come out. What has led him to such an extreme move and what will he find when he arrives?

That is the highest praise to me, you want to know more.

I love writing stories and tapping into what stories mean to people, and when that resonates with a reader it is amazing.

Not having a Premium account, I'm actually intrigued as to exactly where Drew made the break to convert it into 2 chapters. Although I suppose I could check that easily enough simply by looking at the word count for chapter 1.... :)

@Cia actually made the break, when Owen realises how difficult it is to find a job in London. Cia made the right choice and it reads well broken there.

Owen seems like a quite rational character. Even when he's heartbroken, he doesn't get overly emotional or drama queen silly. He picks up his life and tries to find a way to move on. I like sensible characters like that.

He's very self-reliant, look at the life he's had and with a mother for whom he's not a top priority. It's rather sad he's so in control.

But it means he's less likely to be taken advantage of. And that's important for the journey he's on.

I hope so. His home life wasn't the best.

As some of you know, New York City recently hosted World Pride, and it fell on the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riot. They estimated that close to 6 million visitors came to the city to celebrate, and I can tell you New York, especially in certain areas, felt like a gay-majority city. It was amazing.
      Some personal highlights:
Dancing with 13,000 other people at WE Party: Magic Planet at the Javits Center. Literally I have never seen that many people at a single party before. We really showed our numbers at this one. Cindy Lauper, Bette Midler, STOMP and Cirque de Solei all performed before the main dance party started. It was one hell of a sight to see.

The weekend ended with Alegria, which is the traditional Sunday night marathon closing party of Pride. It went for 11 hours, both outside and inside. This is probably the single best party of Pride every year. When they unrolled the massive rainbow flag you see in the video, I swear I've never seen so many grown men cry. It was beautiful.

      PRIDE & PREMIUM
How would you like to support GA and maybe earn a little spending money? Or Premium access? We need your new 5-15k short stories featuring 'Coming Out' stories for to help celebrate before, during, and after Pride month. Each story would be featured with weekly installments and posted for Premium subscribers, with a copy maintained in our Premium archive. Any author on GA can participate, and stories can be 1-3 chapters in length and any genre, as long as they incorporate the theme and are between 5,000 and 15,000 words. Deadline: April 28th, though earlier is always nice so Cia can help do a proof on your story as they come in!

We'd also like to create an eBook of the stories to use solely on the site to provide to those Premium subscribers who enroll for higher month renewals for their offline reading pleasure. Authors who provide stories would also receive a copy of the eBook!

For more information, please PM Cia if the question is private. Also feel free to chat here!
