Are you talking about the banners that announce various things that are going on? If so, doesn’t bother me one bit. It’s a great way for the site to communicate.

If you’re talking about a different banner, the answer is still no, it doesn’t bother me lol.

@gdaniel and @Luca E

I agree with @Mrsgnomie, those advertisements help keep the lights on, so they don't bother me. A couple of suggestions:

Purchase a Premium membership and the ads go away.

https://gayauthors.org/subscriptions/

As for the site's suitability in a work environment, a few years ago some idiot suggested the name Gay Authors not be used because it could be a problem for those in the closet. I'll repeat what I said to her at the time--- Employers pay us to work not to sit around reading stories or playing games. Anyone scared of being seen visiting a site with gay content should refrain from doing so at work.

PS
The ads are often based on an individual's search history and websites visited.

Maybe that refers to BANNER HOYT, the main character in my story Inked? :P

I've just double checked to see what I get shown. If this is an example of what's been referred to, I wouldn't describe them as 'explicit'.

I would describe this as a generic ad targeting any users of a queer site. If they cause issues with workplace filters (I haven't experienced any yet), I guess that'd have to be a workplace conversation. The ads are placed by Google. I'm not sure what, if any, control can be exerted by GA

Yes. This. And it is always to a person's best advantage to assume everything they do on their work computer is known to their employer. And, if one is using their own computer for work while using the company internet, they know exactly what is being accessed online. So do yourself a favor and stick to the work you're supposed to be doing and save the fun for elsewhere.

I am self-employed and work from home, so I am not concerned about anyone's sensitivities but my own. I do appreciate all of the comments my question prompted.

To be precise about the Gay Games banner ads: they vary and the one illustrated by @northie previously is fine, no problem. There is another example of a Gay Games ad ( I'm not going searching for it) which is a gif (an animated banner) of an older hunk ass fucking a youngster wearing glasses.

NSFW not safe for work is a warning to people who may not want someone to glimpse over their shoulder a young guy getting fucked. Gay Games is gay porn. Looking at the site at work (on your break, on your phone, or whatever) is not the point. The gay porn (explicit, and yes that banner is explicit) is the point and users deserve a warning, so as not to be taken by surprise.

Remarks about working at work and the ads you get are due to your web browsing history are not helpful, even a little insulting. Buying a subscription to remove ads is a solution, but doesn't warn users of the free version of the site, which are the majority.

Being seen on a Gay site is not a problem (for most people), but being on a Gay porn site or site with gay porn ads (explicit) is a different matter altogether. At least now users are aware they may get a Gay Games porn ad, which may be fine, but could be pretty damned explicit.

😮 you couldn't have shown us which story you were currently reading in your screen grab? :P:D

As for the Ads, there have always been some semblance of sex to some of them as far as I can recall. Although this one is a bit on the nose... err thrusting abdomen. Maybe I'm desensitized, but I don't have a problem with it personally.

I'm not sure, there may not be any control over what Ads Google sends through in their ad services? It isn't done by the people in Orange though, that much I am pretty positive is true. But like all rare things in this world, I could be wrong and they can correct me on that. :P

Your question had me laughing 🤣🤣🤣 because if the ads appear based on page content, I was reading https://gayauthors.org/story/gdaniel/what-is-true-love-anyway/ when it popped up, and who was it who started the thread? But he does say in the summary: Lots of graphic sexual content. 🤣🤣🤣
