rec Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 To stir the pot, I'm starting a list of hackneyed expressions that should be avoided by authors. My nomination: "they make a cute couple" or variants thereof.
Site Moderator TalonRider Posted November 17, 2006 Site Moderator Posted November 17, 2006 Something that I see a lot of, off of. Jan
Site Administrator Graeme Posted November 17, 2006 Site Administrator Posted November 17, 2006 My nomination: "they make a cute couple" or variants thereof. I would try to avoid this in narration, but people DO say it (often in a sickly sweet tone, to make it a joke) so I think it's fine in dialogue. I would just be questioning the sanity of any character that says it seriously.... (while/after walking through the rain). He was wet and miserable.
DarkShadow Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Damn near any sentence that has the following words: hard, soft, good, bad, quietly, or slightly.
