Being a gay athlete doesn't make be a novelty or a freak!

Here's an interesting story of one college lacrosse captain who came out to his team his senior year. http://www.outsports.com/os/index.php/component/content/article/54-coming-out-stories-that-have-appeared-on-outsports/299-college-lacrosse-player-comes-out-to-his-team -
Its such a difficult life being a Boston sports fan.

I'm a little confused. Are you saying you are more of a cold and calculating person? Not in the mean, nasty way, but in the way that you can only work toward something if there is a clear objective? Thats what I got from what I read, but I could be totally misunderstanding. My best advice is to go into a relationship with no future expectations and just see what comes out of it. If it works out, then great. If it doesn't, then theres a whole lot of others out there. By what you say, it seems like your problem isn't finding people to date, but getting things to last. In my opinion, if its meant to be then it will naturally last. If it wasn't mean to be, then it will die naturally. Don't go in at the beginning thinking it will be the guy you end up marrying and you buy a nice house on Beacon Hill, pop out a couple kids, and grow old together. I'm not saying you do this, but just something to keep in mind. Finding the right person, I think, is 10% putting yourself out there, and 90% just pure, random luck. For example, I joined GA with no intention of trying to find a boyfriend. When I first met Camilo on here and we decided to go out, I didn't expect it would end up as it did. I thought it would be like most other teenage romances. Lots of hot sex, overly passionate, and short lived. Now after three years and a whole lot of lucky breaks, we are still together and have begun planning a possible future together. With my first and only boyfriend having turned into a serious relationship, I don't think I did anything "more right" then others. I just got lucky in finding him, and getting the chances to stay together even as our lives changed rapidly as we left home for college. A lot of people look for some magic step-by-step plan to try and make a relationship work. But I don't think there is. Its just getting the lucky break in finding someone and then a combination of luck and just natural flow to allow it work for the long haul. But what do I know, I'm only 20.

It snowed on Christmas Eve in New York, then nothing on Christmas Day, then came down hard the day after Christmas. Our trip home from New York, which usually takes about 4 hours, took more then 7 because the traffic was so heavy and the interstates were in such bad shape. We got about 6" at my house, and the ski resorts up north got more then a foot!

Like others have said, Grindr is always good. You can find tons of people willing to hook up, and others who are just looking to chat and make friends. Also, going to bars and clubs is another great way to meet people. When I was in Argentina, I met several people and made friends with them just by going to clubs and talking to people. Theres also Manhunt, as long as you're just looking to hook up and don't mind sifting through hundreds of profiles of old, fat guys to find the young and hot ones.

We have been spending Christmas at my uncle's house in New York recently. For the past couple years he has bought a big cut of prime rib from this butcher shop in Midtown Manhattan. I can't remember the name of it, but every piece of meat you buy from there tastes like heaven. Also, since a big chunk of my extended family is Jewish, we have a lot of traditional Jewish side dishes, and macaroons! I absolutely love macaroons. Needless to say nobody ever walks away hungry from my family's Christmas dinner.

MacBook Pro, iPod Touch (that I don't really use much anymore), iPad 3, iMac, and iPhone 5. Our house is solidly loyal to Apple.

The iPhone a hipster thing? Yeah, ok....

What I like most about the iPhone is how all my other Apple products sync up with it. I no longer need an iPod and my music automatically syncs even if I downloaded the song on my MacBook. The same goes for Apps, e-books, etc, where the syncing is far more easier and usually automatic where Android is not. I also like the iMessage system, where when you are texting someone else with an iPhone it acts like an instant messenger instead of texting, making communication much faster. I also have a lot less problems with apps freezing or running slow on my iPhone 5 then I did with my Galaxy S II. Plus, I was already familiar with the iOS system so there was hardly any learning curve when I first got it. And you can not deny the trendy/cool factor of the iPhone or any Apple product for that matter. A couple other things I like is being able to receive and send texts to people's phones using the 'Messages' app on my MacBook so I don't even need to have my phone. Basically, the best thing about iPhone is that it syncs with everything else and is less complicated then Android.

Amen! If you're a girl under the age of 14.
-
It seems like that is becoming more and more common now.
-
Which kind of smartphone do you prefer? iOS or Android? And why? I switched over from Android (Galaxy S II) to an iPhone 5, and I'll never go back to Android after getting an iPhone.

Theres just something sorta...creepy about this.

Being a gay athlete doesn't make be a novelty or a freak!

I know the feeling, sort of. I played football from fifth grade all the way through high school. Granted, I was never out and lived in constant fear of being outed. As you know, the last place anyone wants a gay guy in is the locker room. They all think that you want to fuck and suck every one of them, and are petrified that you may be looking at them. Their homophobia is just over-the-top, and they can't fathom how a fag (who's supposed to be a limp-risted effeminate pussy) could possibly be a tough football player who likes competition just as much as the next guy. It challenges everything they thought they knew about gay guys, and they just can't handle it so they revert to old habits of queer-bashing. Its why I was never out to anyone but my parents in high school, and I give you props for having the balls to be out on a college football team. I didn't keep playing football after high school. I loved playing, but I wanted something entirely different out of my college experience. My parents never allowed me to quit a sport I started, even when I wanted to. The rule was that I had to finish the season, and then if I didn't want to play the next season that was up to me. That way it wouldn't be considered quitting. You finished the season right? You if you don't return to play the next year, thats not quitting. Quitting would be if you walked off the practice field in October, at least in my opinion. If you feel that unhappy and uncomfortable in the football environment, don't keep doing it. College is the best time of your life, and don't waste it doing something that makes you miserable and unhappy. I missed playing competitively, so now I play in an intramural league at my school where even though its just a pick up game, all the guys go pretty hard and its fun but also competitive. If I were you, I'd suggest switching out and doing something like that. It takes the pressure off and makes it more fun for you. Also, you don't need gay friends just for the sake of having gay friends. If you find a gay guy that you have a lot in common with and is chill, then by all means make friends with them. Don't just go looking for gay friends just to have gay friends. My one gay friend is my boyfriend. The rest of my friends are either straight guys or girls, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I have far more in common with them then any gay guy I know, and to them I'm just another one of the guys, despite being gay. In college most people don't care about gay/straight/whatever, and those that do are either athletes or people other people don't like much. I think once you get out of the football sphere and make 'normal' friends, it will get a lot better. We all wished at some point we weren't gay. But for better or worse, you are and it's something you have to learn to live with. It makes life harder, but once you figure it out, it turns out to be an asset. Its just a matter of finding the environment where you fit in and don't have to hide who you are either. If that means switching schools, then go for it. But it also doesn't mean you have to hang out with other gay people. Just find a group of straight-like minded people who don't care. Believe it or not they do exist. If that means you have to transfer schools then go for it. But just don't waste the best four years of your life being something your not and being miserable. Unfortunately, you're not gonna find happiness as a gay athlete in a football locker room, and thats just the fucked up reality of the sports culture. I had to give it up, but in the end I'm glad I did. The question is, are you willing to give it up to be happier? As a side note, talk to people on GA as an outlet. Its a big help. -Matt -
In all honesty, iPhones are like the most have thing now. It literally seems like everybody has an iPhone now. I had a Samsung Android for a while and really liked it, but at heart I'm an Apple lover. I got a MacBook, an iPad, an iPod, blah blah blah, but never an iPhone. Then on Black Friday, my dad abruptly switched everyone in my family over to iPhones, and now I feel like one of the cool kids because I have the latest and greatest. Its also nice that Philly has AT&T LTE service. Its sooooo fast. But yeah, if you wanna be hot, it seems the iPhone is your way to do it. I freakin' love Apple because they make awesome products, but I hate them because they pressure you into continually buying their next greatest product.

Stupid things you've done that you really don't regret
TetRefine replied to Hayden L's topic in The Lounge
1.) When you do not have a bed or hotel to go to when you want to do the hanky pankey, you find other places to do it in that you probably shouldn't. I didn't regret it then and I don't regret it now. But it was never the brightest choice I ever made, because I was thinking not with my brain but with another very powerful piece of the male anatomy. 2.) At the ski mountain I work at, we have this steep, straight trail that is usually somewhat icey. On slow days where we didn't have much to do, we would take a radar gun and have somebody man it at the bottom of the trail. We would then take the chairlift to the top of the trail, and at the top we would get into a racer's tuck with all our weight forward and go straight down without turning or doing anything to slow us down. We never wore helmets, and we'd clock in on the radar gun at 60-65mph. If we wiped out going that fast on basically a sheet of ice underneath us, our brains were mush. We were all stupid and in high school, and the thrill of doing it overtook all common sense and caution. I've luckily smartened up since then and always wear a helmet when I do it now. 3.) Peeing in a bush on St. Patty's Day freshman year of college as two old ladies walked down the street. I waved hi to them and smiled. -
They should have labeled the bag in the middle as 'Fans'.

I like Delaware for their tax free shopping. I think my university keeps several of the liquor stores located right across the border on I-95 in business.

Top. I knew I was a top before I even lost my virginity, because it just seemed more natural for me. I've bottomed some, and it was good but its not really my thing.
