I always reply to comments. I appreciate that a reader took the time to tell me what they thought or felt about a piece I wrote, so I try to show that appreciation by replying to them. I think it's rude if an author doesn't reply to a comment. I'm still not clear on replying to reviews. I tried once and it didn't work.

I will usually leave a comment if I read a chapter that I like. It takes more effort to write a comment than to press a ‘like’ button. However, if I read a story and I don’t like it, for whatever reason, I will usually dip out. The main reason I don’t leave comments on something I don’t like is because 1) I’m not invested in it and 2) I don’t know how the author will respond, especially if they are a new face. I have recently read a story that had I character that I couldn’t stand. I felt comfortable detailing my very strong feelings about this character to the author, because I knew they were going to be a grown up about it. I’ve never come across an author that has been nasty about my comments, but I have seen what were genuinely helpful, constructive and polite comments left by other readers that the author got really upset about. So I can see why some readers are a bit gun shy about it. If I left a comment and had an author go off at me in the same way, I sure as hell wouldn't leave another one.

This was excellent. I love the mythology (I know about as much about gargoyles as Gilbert does). Gilbert's interactions with his friends near the end and with Hagan trying to say thank you and just insulting him instead was wonderful. I hope to hear more about these characters!

**WARNING** Rant incoming **WARNING** While I could write a list of reasons why Cassie will NEVER be a Josh convert (Josh treated Galen horribly when they first met, borderline cheats on Roger, has zero self awareness, is immature, petulant and passive aggressive) the biggest thing that bothered me about Josh is that he never chose Galen. Josh valued the miserable status quo he had with Roger over Galen's feelings and even went out of his way to dangle the possibility of a relationship in Galen's face only to cruelly reject him later. I don't think Josh really had any intention of breaking up with Roger. His relationship with Roger ended because he was a sadistic monster, not because he wanted to be free to court Galen (which is what BOTH of them wanted). And after the attack, where was Josh? Gone. For THREE FUCKING MONTHS. Galen had been repeatedly tortured and sexually assaulted, something he may never fully recover from, and Josh decides to prioritize a three month trip to Florida with Alannah over helping Galen? For fucking real? It was Liam who checked up on Galen, Liam making him take his medicine and Liam who found Dr. Snowden. What did Josh bring to the table? Some food and cuddling? Thank God for Liam, Alannah, Dr. Snowden and Jody. They are the ones who I think really helped Galen with his recovery, while Josh was just there to reap the benefits. I'm so glad that Liam, Alannah, Ethan, Jody and Galen were such likable, delightful characters, because I don't think I could ever give Josh a second chance. /end rant

Congratulations on wrapping this up. I'll be honest, I disliked Josh so much from earlier in the story, that I don't give a rip if he gets a happy ending or not. But I care about Galen, and I'm glad there is a happy ending for him, even though I think he can do much better. Thank you so much for sharing.

It's odd because that usually doesn't happen to me. I've gotten to the point where if I just put the pen to paper and go, things happen. Usually what I write isn't good, but it's at least workable. When I write a few pages, read it over and see nothing salvable, that's pretty depressing.

Great article. I think I experienced something like this earlier this week. I tried to force myself to write through it and it was...really bad. I hated every word that came out. Totally going to try some of the things suggested here.
