I believe its genre is ‘creature feature comedy horror’ $8m is a micro-budget for Hollywood but the reviews are pretty favourable (maybe its garnered cult status over the years) - pretty sure I started to watch it on late night TV a few years back but I was tired and bailed out just as you did. When it comes around again I’ll definitely see it thru

family members always said 1947 was the worst - but then Britain was bankrupt and had little food+fuel to keep people fed+warm (by 62/63 rationing had ended and “resilience” was much better)

A Warning to the Curious (subtitles in various languages) This 1972 BBC ghost/horror film (50 minutes) is based on a short story by the Victorian scholar and antiquary, M. R. James. Recently restored by the BFI from the original camera film, it beautifully captures the eerie landscape of an ancient and less visited part of Britain, the remote coastal settlements of East Anglia, with a haunting and atmospheric soundtrack. Best watched on a dark night (with the lights dimmed 🙀), the story concerns the legend of the three crowns, dating from the Dark Ages, and the treasure hunter who foolishly goes looking for the last surviving crown… https://youtu.be/Sq4Vb_Zrc2Y?si=TCBcBEzUwUOAGUy8

Does anyone have a friendly poltergeist haunting their house?

oh yeah, as sure as the undead won’t stay dead, if she’d climbed that “twisted tree” this story would have had a whole different ending 🙀 -

don’t think he was if so, a strange job choice of “consulting detective” (studying, understanding +interacting with people). Also he was a lover of music concerts, showed empathy (Blue Carbuncle), sympathy for the vulnerable (Copper Beeches), and had a strong sense of justice (Milverton) Interestingly, though, Holmes does suggest that his brother, Mycroft, might be… -
if only grammar did come naturally UK state schools abandoned teaching grammar decades ago because educators know best 🙀 although public schools, known logically as “private” schools in the US (we like confusing the rest of the world ), continue to teach it because they evidently still believe it’s important… fact is I only learned English grammar because I opted to learn Latin, where understanding grammar (including word order) is a prerequisite (and much time had to be ‘wasted’ getting students up to speed because of the frankly ridiculous policy of educators ) even now (like you) I’m still learning - but I suspect your grasp of even basic English grammar principles is streets ahead of the natives

yup, that’s it! the writer knowing when to “put down the pen” at a satisfying point, because no ‘life story’ ends until the MCs are dead +buried ☠️ 🪦 👻 🧛♂️ 🦇and I recall reading a ‘saga’ (nifty?) where that’s exactly what the writer did…

yeah, authors really don’t want to find themselves in a Stephen King revenge scenario…

Blow me down with a feather if people haven’t got a bee in their bonnet about English idioms. My Uncle Bob thinks they’re the work of the devil, but Auntie Enid swears blind that’s all cock and bull, and idioms are the best thing since sliced bread because they confuse Jonnie foreigner, and Uncle Bob’s barking up the wrong tree. Anyroad, here’s my two cents, free gratis and for nothing - Auntie Enid’s got her knickers in a twist on this one, and I’m onboard with Uncle Bob. After all, as Auntie Enid’s always telling me, “Bob’s your uncle”
