Nice Guys Finish At Last
Mann Ramblings commented on Randomness's story chapter in Nice Guys Finish At Last
There are times when a fairy-tale happily ever after is very welcome. This is one of them. What a nice, satisfying ending. Well done. -
“Hasshhh anyone told you how good looking you are, Artie?” John slurred in my ear. Here I was trying to do my impression of a crutch to the Incredible Hulk's little brother as we staggered down the street when he made me blush so hard I nearly dropped him on his drunk ass. I'm no slouch, I'm a big guy, but he was one step away from being dead weight at this point. I was really hoping none of the other people walking the sidewalk could hear his rambling. “Shut up, man.” “No serioushhly, Artie.

How can you shake up your life's Point of View? Find the truth in the bottom of a bottle.

Now I wonder what KC will write in response to this? Great prompt response, Joann!!

I like the introduction of new supporting characters. It will be very interesting to see how they complement or complicate the storyline. I like Richard and Bearnard. I hope their involvement will be significant and not simply a chance encounter never to be heard from again. Nice plotline. Looking forward to see where it takes us.

Ma Graeney is full of surprises, isn't she? This chapter has a nice change of direction that keeps the mystery alive. Only issue: Given Jack's blind POV, the description of Jack's captors somehow seems out of place. Other than that I really liked the chapter.

I like the fact that Colton has second thoughts about trying to turn Jack in. It's fortunate that the police are too busy to take his request. Hopefully the notebook will have some kind of information that will be of use and possibly redeem Jack. Only time will tell.
-
Colton's discovery and response are very real to me and play out a strong drama. The aftermath of this kind of violence has ramifications in more ways than one for everyone involved. Hopefully, some kind of resolution is possible.

You've done a nice job at portraying how devastating and tragic events like these are. The violence is graphic but not gratuitous; it paints a vivid, yet horrible picture. Even the survivor is disfigured and make you wonder what will become of the once happy couple? Well done.

Thanks, Scarab! I'm glad you really enjoying this story even if you aren't in love with all the characters. But that's okay. I hope my efforts live up to your expectations. There's still a lot of story left to go. Glad to have you along for the ride.

Story Review Featured Story: Guitars And Crossdressers
Mann Ramblings commented on Renee Stevens's blog entry in Gay Authors News
I'm with SoullessCynner. I've been hooked on this since I found it and read the first batch of chapters in one setting and look forward to every one after as it comes out. Go read it. You won't be disappointed. It's a little addictive. -
To be fair, the scene from this prompt will be used in another story in the universe of The Luxorian Fugitive that is set after the ongoing story it complete. The prompt helped me break a writer's block I was having on the new story. Thanks, Comicfan! You saved my sequel!

Prompts Writing Prompts #208 & #209
Mann Ramblings commented on Renee Stevens's blog entry in Writing World
I'm planning on submitting for the prompt for the first time. (YAY!!) What's the usual method? Post here like I'm doing now? Or is there a better option? -
Oh god, this is heart wrenching. You feel so sorry for Krista and all her efforts. There's nothing worse than when family disappoints on such a grand scale. A mother's favoritism combined with a sibling's poor behavior is such a destructive combination. The whole scene feels very real. I think we can all empathize with Krista. I want another chapter where she gets to shame her family into being better people. Argh!!! Well done.

If a Tree Falls in the Forest
Mann Ramblings commented on Sara Alva's story chapter in If a Tree Falls in the Forest
I have to admit, the story is really charming. I usually shy away from stories involving high school age characters, but I am very glad to have the chance to read this. It was a perfect way to lighten an otherwise rotten day. This is a fun read, and it's nice to see a Happily Ever After that doesn't make me want to puke over the sugar content. Great story! -
Sergeant Liam Jacks has made a life for himself on the cargo vessel the Santa Claus to escape the memories on civil unrest on Alpha Centauri. Life should be simple enough, but one mysterious passenger can unravel the quiet in ways he hadn't imagined. ***NOMINATED FOR BEST PROMISING AUTHOR STORY IN THE 2013 READERS CHOICE AWARDS***

If I feel like making an effort, I'm partial to dirty vodka martinis. I love to sip brandy all night and love a good chardonnay. In the summer, I love a gin & tonic if I have it on hand. Love a cold beer. Mimosas are for holiday breakfasts in my house. Everything in moderation. (Although it doesn't really sound like it, does it?) I haven't had whiskey since a SPECTACULAR night of memory loss and nausea in my teens.

New Year's Resolutions: To Blab or Not To Blab?
Mann Ramblings commented on MJ85's blog entry in Comments, Musings, Ponderings, Thoughts, 'N' Thangs
I think tell someone your resolution is just a way to get support for a task you doubt you can complete. I've played that scenario on myself more than once. Many unfinished tasks and projects sit in my office for just that reason. My biggest successes have always come from not saying a word and simply doing it. (And for me, not telling is very hard.) Or by doing it out of spite. That's a good motivator. -
Um. . . wow. That was really amazing and well thought out. A unique catastrophe to make a disaster setting with glimpses into so many lives and how it impacts them. So many poignant moments. Loved it.

I love how well you captured Jeremy's character through his narration. His comments are believebale and show his age properly, a thing that many authors struggle with. Even the dialogue fits him and isn't flowing above his experience. A great and entertaining look at the coming out process. I'm betting a few of us can easily identify with either Jeremy or Toby's point of view. Very well done. Get a proofreader.

This is a lovely, sweet story. The time jumps threw me at first, (Only because I always imagine characters are older teenagers when I read this genre) but once I realized it, the story flowed well for me. It is hopelessly romantic and ultimately has a HEA that we could all wish for. It's a tale that's very easy to wrap yourself into. This is one of those pieces that I could easily see expanded into several chapter as they pass through the stages of their lives. Even so, it's a nice piece. Thanks for sharing.

Mann Ramblings commented on Trebs's blog entry in Writing World

Oh god. Every time I read articles like this I want to go proofread everything I've posted to see if it's in there. And go back over all the ongoing stories as well. Argh!!!
