It's the same in Denmark, but unfortunately that's not always enough to catch unsafe elderly drivers. Not that they are common, but it's scary to meet them.
Many years ago, just after I got my driver's licence, I encountered an old lady who committed three gross traffic violations within a short time. First she drove out in front of me in a roundabout (didn't even look to check if someone was coming), then she ran a red light, probably because the traffic signal was new and she had gone past that crossing for fifty years with right of way. It sure was a big surprise for the guy driving out from the side road.
Finally, at the next traffic light she turned the corner right in front of a pedestrian, who was on a zebra crossing with a green walk signal. He had to jump back to avoid being hit. After that I lost sight of her, but I still feel bad about not reporting her to the police. But at the time I thought they wouldn't listen to a driver who had gotten their licence one month earlier.
